To rent a school bus you'd have to contact the superintendant for that school district's office. Good luck!
I'm not sure where in Maine you are, but in the Bangor area you might want to try contacting Cyr bus lines. They provide shuttle service for where I work from the three parking lots my employer rents around town, and some of them are school buses (they also use Dodge Sprinter-like things). I didn't see anything on their website about bus rental, but they do have all their contact information.
Depending on where you are in Maine and how far you'll be transporting people, you could look at trolleys to rent. I know they rent them out in York County (Ogunquit/York/Kittery/Wells/Kennebunk), but they probably also do in Boothbay and Bar Harbor. My future sister- and brother-in-law rented one for their wedding party and took it from their ceremony in Wells to their reception in York. It resulted in some great pics and the wedding party had a blast!

I'm wondering if anyone knows of an inexpensive bus rental company in Maine - think school buses. I got quotes of several thousand dollars for nice buses, but that's wayyyy out of our budget.
