This is a plea to all of you creative minds out there.
My wedding location has very very tall ceilings. I was thinking about having half of the tables with the tall eifle tower vases with lights inside and love the look of the big ostrich feathers out the top like the attached picture. (minus the glass big things hanging down – that seems to be a little much) However, I am not a fan of the price of the feathers. Wanted to see if anyone had any great idea for something equaly impressive that could be done with much less $$$.

I’m not super crafty, but so many ladies on here have posted their awesome ideas for centerpiece decor. Hopefully they can share their inspiration with you!

Feathers are a great idea. I also love the idea of super tall vases with babys breath submerged.

I know that this is maybe less glamorous than you’re looking for, but I fell in love with big graphic roses. We’re putting them in tall wine bottles. The whole thing is just made of paper and wire. Might not be what you have in mind for your wedding, but it might help generate some ideas? Good luck with the planning!.

Maybe get branches or something and glue a whole bunch of smaller white feathers to them to create a similar effect of the giant feathers?

This is a tall, dramatic easy DIY centerpiece. It is composed of paper lanterns at the end of bamboo poles or metal rods inserted into a narrow container so they arc out over the table. You could DIY it by inserting a pipe into a patio umbrella base (all spray-painted the color of your choice) then inserting bamboo into the pipe. Hang paper lanterns with LED lights from the ends

@julies1949: WOW, What an interesting idea. I have been wanting to use those paper pompom things, maybe I could do this using the long bambo pieces. That has really gotten me thinking. Thank you!!

@Thrifty_Bride_Kate: Very interesting. Thank you for the suggestion and picture. So is this something that is a DIY project? If so, how in the world are these made. I love the white flower, but maybe I could glam it up some with a different color or a shimmer paper.

I would check out save-on-crafts.com if you haven’t already, they seem to have the best prices on otherwise pricey items.
For my tall centerpieces I actually glued some preserved orchids (from saveoncrafts) on some branches, stuck them in an effiel tower vase and curled some fake onion grass, and then strung some beads on “invisble” line so they would catch the light.

@Hippos: what kind of branches are those?

Have you looked at rental places? Some places have ostrich feather centerpieces to rent. Our venue offers them and they are fab!

I made these for about $30 each

@piiink: They are curly willow branches I bought from Micheals on a whim!

@Mrs.Firefly1: This was the picture that started my quest to find vases like that…..it wasn’t easy! But I LOVE them! Anyway…..having gotten them and done probably 10 different trials already, I am pretty convinced that wherever this picture started at some point it got mislabled! I have tried baby’s breath several times and picked up some beads on like fish line kindof stuff at Hobby Lobby last week — the baby’s breath looks nothing like the picture! The beads I picked up aren’t the best to demonstrate, but I think it is more likely something like that in the picture….

@78science: did you use distilled water with the babys breath?
