You can use floral foam or whatever you need to use to make the arrangement sit right and then cover the outside of the vase with fabric, paper, lace, burlap, wrap in ribbon or string…

you can also paint the inside

@Nikkimcq:  just put fabric/paint/paper to the same height you would normally fill it with filler

@Nikkimcq:  To decrease the amount of filler you need, you can place a narrower glass or jar inside your vase. Arrange your flowers in that. Then you only need to fill up the space between the two containers.

This pic shows a jar with the lid still on (makes it easier to see)

I am pretty sure you can get dehydrated aqua/gel beads off ebay pretty cheap. You just have to soak them to hydrate them. They look even better with a waterproof LED underneath then but that gets a bit more expensive doing that. Here are a few pic of how they look 🙂
