Hi all, newly engaged here and we’re really leaning towards “eloping”. I put that in quotes because we want to invite a few people along like our parents and best friends. I’d say there’s about 21 people (including our 3 kids) we’d be over the moon about joining us… which would I guess make It more a destination wedding. Here’s the issue; we’re limited on space for guests unless we upgrade our venue, however once we do we’ll be locked into it.
How do I gage a number the number of people that can or would be willing to join us without an actual invite? Without being tacky???

- Wedding: February 2015 - Chapel on Base
SThnds like a destination wedding. My first wedding was like that. We eloped to Vegas. However, my mom made my dress, we sent invitations, and the chapel doors couldn’t be closed. Everyone came. It was great!

Have you already booked a venue? What is its capacity?

I thought eloping meant you have no guests and the two of you just run off and get married?

SweetFlower: thats what the TRUE definition is. people like to petend it means a short notice small ceremony but it doesnt.
OP: just have a small short notice wedding and invite a small group. real invites.

SweetFlower I believe that’s the traditional meaning of eloping sure. That’s why I put it in quotes and said it’s really (turning into) more of a destination wedding.
Originally we planned for it to be just us then the parents said they were coming our best friends… etc etc so whatevs lol
Merpitymerp: we haven’t booked the venue that’s exactly why I had the question. Our original capacity was about 6-15 people and free; however if there’s going to be more than that we’d need to book the larger space at a much higher premium.
At any rate we’ve just this evening decided for other reasons to go ahead and book the larger space (which holds 100) and call it destination wedding and invite a (very) small amount of people. Thanks for the advice ladies!
