There are a couple mallard ducks (a male and a female) that like to hang out around our little bird feeder occasionally. Today, the male looks like his leg is hurt. He’s still getting around, eating, and quacking, but he has a noticeable limp.
Should I do something along the lines of calling animal control or just leave him be?

I would just leave him alone. Nature will handle things.
Also, woo, 1000th post!

Awww, that’s too bad. I’d leave him as well. Birds are pretty crafty when they get injured and if he’s still walking, maybe he’ll get better soon? I know how you feel, I have the same instinct to go help cute creatures!

Keep an eye on him, but don’t try to catch him. Mallards can be really aggressive.

I figured it would be best to leave him alone, but the poor guy looks so pathetic limping around that I want to swoop in and patch him up! Your comments helped reel me back in. Ha.

@the_future_mrs: Hahaha I know. I was thinking the same thing; This is a wedding forum, should I post about this sad, injured duck? LOL Who else would I turn to for advice on this other than my ‘bee ladies?

Aww… poor duck. 🙁 We have them behind our house and I am always worried someone flying down our alley will hit them. I brake for ducks. 🙂
