So I’m looking into insanity and I’m a little aprehensive and overwhelmed. I have a friend doing it and she looks great! But she is a stay at home mom and I’m a full time college student. I’m affraid I won’t have time for the meal plan and maybe even the work out. My wedding is in September so I was thinking of starting the work out when I graduate in June, but starting the meal plan righ away. What kind of experience have you ladies had with insanity? Are the meals easy to cook and are they transportable? Has it been working for you?

@KT_Hime: My husband did the insanity workouts during law school but not the meal plan… he just made healthy choices and tried to eat at home as much as possible. He got good results really quickly (I think lost like 15 pounds in 2 months?) but let me tell you, the work outs are not easy! I don’t know how athletic you are but some of the moves are like… uh, my body doesn’t function that way. BUT the whole point of insanity is to do what you can and to push yourself to your own personal limit, not compare yourself to the people on the screen. According to my DH, there is one girl, Tanya, that you will grow to hate. Hahaha.
Anyway, you just really have to set aside the time to do the routines. DH mapped out all the work outs in his calendar and would adjust his “rest days” so that they fell on days he might be busier or have more classes.

@KT_Hime: I did insanity last year before I got pregnant (I stopped during pregnancy and have not started it back up). I did not do the meal plan, though, so I can’t help you with that sorry 🙁 So I LOVED insanity. I loved how it made me look… BUT It is really intense (which was not that big of a deal) AND honestly it just took too much time. Most of the workouts are about 45 minutes, and unfortunately with working part time, taking care of two kids, and going to school full time I just don’t have the time or energy to do that everyday. If you feel like you can fully devote 45 minutes everyday then I say GO FOR IT!!! AND even without doing the meal plan and just eating healthy/normally I still lost some weight and I definitely was toning up. NOW if you do not think you will have the time devoted to it I would look into Jillian Michael’s 30 day shred (and her other dvd workouts) BECAUSE they are very similar to insanity (not as intense) and they are ONLY 20 minutes! Definitely do not see results as fast, BUT I knew I could fit 20 minutes into my crazy schedule. Either way good luck!! and have fun with it 🙂

i did insanity, also without the meal plan. Got great results. It is very hard on the knees though so if you have knee issues I would maybe go another route. My FI also hurt his back while doing it but he lucked out because I’m a chiropractor 🙂

Haha, yes, Tanya. She’s a beast and always doing better than you according to Shaun.
I did Insanity last summer and didn’t really see much of a difference, but it’s mostlyb ody weight exercises. I’m fairly athletic and couldn’t do many exercises because I have NO body strength at all and the cardio wasn’t really enough for me to lose any weight. However, I did not combine it with the meal plan either.

@Lily_of_the_valley: I agree on the hard on the joints thing. I made it through month one and then had to take a break because work picked up and when I tried to start back up a month later, I just couldn’t keep the momentum and my back and knees started hurting and I ended up quitting. I was toning from during the first month though. I didn’t do the meal plan.

I am dying to get Insanity! I told my husband I plan on getting it when we get a house. We’re on the second floor right now; and I’m not quite sure all that jumping around would make our neighbors too happy.

I have insanity and when I did the full workout it made me too bulky to my liking! So for now on when I want a really good cardio workout I will do one of his workouts and mix it in with yoga and kickboxing.

I’m a full-time grad student and I work out 30min-1 hour a day 5-6 days a week. My guess is you have the time — you just have to commit yourself to making time for it.
As someone who sits around thinking, writing and reading all day long, I really look forward to my workouts. It’s nice to challenge yourself physically as well as mentally. It makes me feel strong and capable, which translates me into getting more work done in less time.
And, the busier I am, the MORE I look forward to my workouts. Busy=stressed, and the more stressed I am, the more I need to burn off that nervous energy.

@sharky,month 2 is not joke!!! There is this one move called a squat push up,and when I first saw it,I though “Who does that?Who sits in a squat and thinks, oh this is not enough pain, lets add a push up to it!!”
@ KT_Hime It’s CRAZY,but effective, lost 15 pounds and a lot of inches of my waist and butt 🙂 Just finished last week. Do it, take your time, do it at your pace and it will be fine 🙂

I have done insanity twice, but both times I was never able to do the month 2 DVDs, I would do the month 1 DVDs all over again…its so challenging! I agree with PPs its hard on the knees, and I have some lower back problems, so for all the burpees, plank push-ups etc. I usually just hold plank or do push ups on my kness…also I am not that flexible, so when they do the stretching segments I grab a PT band and do my own stretches…I would def eas into it! As someone with back problems I only did it after working out confortably 5 times a week at the gym…and when I would do it I would do it every other day or every 2 days…then after a couple weeks go 6 days a week. LOL just modify whatever you need to, the work outs are amazing! I didn’t follow the meal plan either…just used the My Fitness Pal app
