I'm around! I'm sorry you are having problems sleeping, I always have trouble sleeping when my husband is out of town.
Well - we've been long distance for the entirity of our relationship, and we've never lived together, so I'm used to the not being together part.
I've had insomnia troubles since I was 12, until I met my FI.
Of course, he doesn't believe me because when we're together in person, I feel safe enough that I will fall asleep ANYWHERE. I sit down and lean my head on his shoulder...next thing I know I wake up and it's an hour later. My last trip there, we sat down for "just a second" on the couch, we were going to go out for the afternoon, and I fell asleep for three hours in this contorted position half on FI, with the dog on top of me. :P
Are you two going to move in together only after the wedding? I know how long distance goes, my husband and I were long distance for the first few years of our relationship.
Yes, he stays with my family when he comes to visit. He lived locally for three months last summer (which absolutely spoiled us), he was able to rent out my next door neighbor's basement, so he was around all the time, and basically just slept over there. :-)
We've been long distance since we met 7 years ago - but after the summer, we're both ready for it to be over.
Yeah, I'm sure you are sick of it by now! At least it's less than a year now until you get married!
Yes, and I am thrilled! He's moving out in December and is going to live with my family through the holidays while he gets settled into his new job and we are apartment hunting. So only 8 months until he's finally here, and he is actually talking about living here again for the summer which would be sooo wonderful.
At the moment, however, I am counting down to his next visit in 20 days! E-Pics, venue tours, cake tasting, lots of exciting stuff planned.
So, any big plans for this weekend?
Wow very exciting! And 20 days isn't too far away at all.
Nothing planned. My husband and I are going to Costco tomorrow but otherwise, he has to study for a test next week and get a bunch of homework done since he is going to be traveling for the next three weeks on and off.
Yeah, I'm trying to finish a set of paintings over the weekend, so I'm basically drowning in acrylics and graphite at the moment.
Fortunately, we did the big costco/target run last weekend. I typically go grocery shopping with my mother to help out, because I am the oldest of 6 siblings, and grocery shopping is a 4-hour event for my mother, every two weeks. It. is. exhausting. Looking forward to only shopping and cooking for two people!
Wow, 6 siblings! That sounds like an ordeal! I want to cook more but half the time, I'm so tired at the end of the day that I really don't want to.
@MissAsB, I agree with you! I love to cook but after work I'm so tired. I spent 3 hours on Sunday prepping all our dinners for the week so we don't have an excuse to eat out.
@elusivephoto, I feel you on the LDR. For the first 4.5years of our relationship we were long distance (same hometown but different colleges). I'm trying to finish putting wedding invites together by the end of the weekend but I'm feeling pretty lazy....
There's lots of really cool ways to spend a couple of hours cooking on the weekend, doing make-ahead dishes, so that you don't have to cook during the week. Of course, I love culinary arts, and it's fun for me...which it isn't for some people. I'm actually going to be teaching children's culinary arts classes starting in the fall.
It's actually a lot of fun coming from a large family, I have three sisters (12, 10, 2), and two brothers (7, 14) and they're all very polite and helpful. Not sure how my mother does it though, sometimes - she works full time from home and homeschools them all! It's a well-oiled system, to say the least! ;-)
Edit: @Emily: Hi! Sounds like you posted about just what I was talking about make-ahead dishes. I'm really fortunate to be able to work from home full-time, so I will not have to do that as much when we're married, but they are definitely very helpful skills!
I will have to try that some time. Unfortunately, right now I have some health problems which make me pretty exhausted most of the time and it's hard to get motivated to do much, even cook food.
Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that. Sounds like a friend of mine - she's going through a similar thing. I hope you get to feeling better soon!
I've had a couple of medical-related things in the past few years that left me feeling totally wiped out for long periods of time. It just makes everything feel harder. :-( At least it sounds like maybe you'll have some time to relax (except for the Costco trip) this weekend?
I have a bit too much time to relax actually. I'm just in school now (I have class 2 nights a week). I had a surgery at the end of last year which helped but I'm not 100% better. My doctor is really popular though so I can't go back in until summer to figure out what we are going to do next.
I love cooking too, but odd work hours means cooking dinner at 9 o'clock and I'm just too tired. Where are you teaching your cooking class? I'd like to get a job at Young Chef's Academy.
Wow, next summer! Must be a good doctor. What are you going to school for MissAsB?
I teach classes from home, I got plugged into a local network of children's instructors, and have written my own curriculum. I am not teaching them, currently, but I have in the past and they are lots of fun. Either broken into 1 day workshops, or 6-week courses.
I am a fine artist by training, I worked 4 years in graphic design, and am currently working as a professional photographer for the past two years. My passion is in painting, however, which is why I'm trying to finish this set of paintings at the moment. I have a local gallery interested in my work. I had some of my photography in a museum in europe last year, but I really want to move towards being a painter, that's what I was originally trained in.
What do you do, Emily?
I'm going to school for my masters in business administration.
Oh, that's amazing! What is your end goal in getting a degree in business? That takes a TON of dedication!
I work as a personal trainer & yoga teacher! So I moved to CA after college because FI wanted to do a post-bac year and we were tired of a ldr. I was looking for work love it and it was my first job after graduation so to make ends meet I accepted weird work hours. At least I like what I do and now (a year later) have found a good routine for who does what around the house.
wedding planning & planning our move has taken over my life. For the next 2 months any time that is not spent on those 2 thigns is luxurious! Going to see Alice in Wonderland tmrw night which should be fun.
That should be fun, I can't wait to see that!
I love yoga, I typically take classes once a week for that, I'm a runner - and do random other classes at our gym. I've always wanted to get more into yoga, though. After we're married, my plan is to join our local FlowYoga because I feel like I'm about as far as I can go with my current gym's classes.
You must be EXTREMELY flexible - or is that just a stereotype? lol
Where did you get your personal training certification? I had actually considered that for a while, but then ended up getting a new job and never followed through.
I used to be a salsa/swing dancer and am anxiously trying to get back into the shape I was in then, but I've been in a knee brace since so...it's not working. :P
Where are you bee's from?
@MissAsB, how are you liking business administration? I'm considering going back for my masters and that is one of the courses I'm looking at. I hope that you get your health problems solved soon! I'm sure that feeling sick/tired all the time is awful.
@elusivephoto, I took an intensive yoga teacher training course for a few months right after I graduated and loved it so much I got a home study personal training course NCCPT. If you don't have any exercise physiology/nutrition experience I would recommend going with a different program though.
I am more flexible than most people though not as flexible as a lot of yogis. I love love love hot yoga and highly recommend it. Have you tried it?
Well, I do have a lot of exercise/nutrition experience, so that might be a good deal for me!
I live in VA, I grew up in AR, and my family is from NM. I have heard about hot yoga, at least...if it's the same as bikram yoga I have. My aunt keeps recommending it but I can't find a place to do it locally.
Okay Gals,
Thanks SO MUCH for keeping me company tonight! I think I should finally be able to fall asleep now. G'night! :-)

FI (Long-Distance at the moment) is super busy studying tonight and I have bad insomnia. He's been calling and reading to me every night since before we were a couple. The first book he read to me was Alice in Wonderland, then A Wrinkle In Time...and we just recently finished The Great Gatsby.
Annnyywayy...I can't sleep. Especially not without him reading to me. So...I'm renting mindless girly flicks on iTunes (very unusual for me, I'm usually a sci fi/action girl) and made the mistake of renting "Everyone's Fine" without knowing what it was about. Not a brainless girly flick. At. All.
So now I'm looking to chat before I go bonkers (or super emotional from sleep deprivation and hormones) Any other bees around tonight?
