I like board a, to me it's more romantic than b with the green in it. I think blue with espresso accents is very classy and the creams incorporated add romance to the feel of it all.
I love the first board!! The shades of blue are perfect, they're not the cheesy electric blues or some of the other horrible blue shades i see. (and blue is my fave color)
I hate to say it, but when i saw the second one, my first thought was JCrew. The colors are nice, but I think the first board was my favorite!!
I think they're both very nice, very classic and tasteful, but my personal favorite is A. To me, A seems very chic and effortless, as well as romantic and lovely--B is very nice but just not as wedding-y. I don't think A is boring at all--that's like saying that Grace Kelly was boring. It's all about classic, timeless elegance.
What time of year is your wedding?
I think board a) might be more limiting to spring and summer. I was in a fall wedding (in the northeast) with light blue being the main color and I didn't really care for it.
I went to a wedding last summer, where the wedding was held on a lawn overlooking Lake Michigan. The couple used blue and green with lots of white flowers. The colors worked so well because they didn't contrast with the beautiful surrounding. So, I vote for board B!
Good Luck
Our wedding is July 18, 2009 so we'll be right at the height of summer. We will be surrounded by gorgeous blue water and amazing architeture...hopefully bright blue sunny skies! Thanks for the early input - I love your comments!
kourtann, my favorite color is also blue, and while I kind of love bright, cheesy shades of blue even I come and go with my perception of them so I wanted to be sure to go with either navy (board b) or soft, muted shades of blue that aren't too pastel nor anything overly trendy (board a) so I am glad you love the color!
Cyd, I think my favorite part of the blue on board A is that (i guess you'd call it) slate blue BM dress. gorgeous!!!
That dress is from the Ann Taylor Celebrations line and they color Pacific Blue...a perfect name! I absolutely love the dress and hope to use it for my girls.
I love both boards, but I agree, while B is more MY style, A is definately more romantic and timeless!
B is also more my style, but I think it's a little "Nautica". A is more timeless, but I think the cake from B is more timeless. You could just swap it for blue hydrangeas instead and brown ribbon? It sounds like you are set on your blue, which is gorgeous, but a tiffany blue color would also be pretty.
Hi Cyd-
I think board A gives off a more romantic vibe- Board B is also VERY nice for an outdoor wedding.
Where oh where did you find that adorable bedding in board A?!
I love board A. It does have a timeless vibe. I am getting married on July 18th, 2009 as well! You are on to a great start with the board. Unlike I, who can't see to wrap her head around a color palette.
First, let me just say, both are gorgeous (wow, you put a lot of work in to these! Great job!). No matter which you'd choose, it will be beautiful. I do prefer one over the other though... my choice is (b) - the word that instant jumped into my mind when I saw it was: CLASSY. It's really spectacularly elegant. The first one was also lovely but truth be told, blue and brown is very 2007/8. I actually went to a wedding with this theme last year and today, it's everywhere in the home decor stores. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it (my bedroom is blue and brown!) but I thought I'd bring it up since you specifically said you didn't want it to look 'overly trendy' ten/twenty years down the road. At the end of the day, go with what feels right.. your gut is never wrong. :-)
B, it is classic, but with a twist that will still probably be fresh years down the road.
i'll chime in....i would go with "A". It really appears timeless. "B" though very modern and very chic will undoubtedly become dated bc bright colors come in and out of season. pastels and neutrals do not in the wedding world.
IMO, its about application. For exapmle, the pink weddings of the 70's and 80's look dated bc of the application of the color BUT pink weddings themselves have stood the test of time.
Thank you for all of your input!
I've had more than one inquiry about the bedding, so here is the link. I found it at Bella Home Fashions. Wait until you see the price!
Another palette I might play with in a palette of muted neutrals. I'm thinking a base of brown, champagne with occasional appearances of the beautiful ocean blue I love and maybe some light sage. Everything would be very muted and I would work to avoid any obvious "wedding colors." I will update this thread if I create another board.
GetMarried4Less - great point! It really is all about the application of color. No one would hesitate to have a pink wedding today, but the way the pink is used today is much more refined than in decades past.
MissPurple, you also have a great point about the brown and chocolate. I think that is why I would work very hard to keep the brown minimal and keep the major emphasis on the blue and ivory to keep it from being too "today"....my bedroom is a muted aqua and brown so I know where you're coming from!
I just wanted to point out that the Ann Taylor Celebrations bridesmaid dress in the beautiful Pacific Blue color featured in inspiration board (a) is on sale right now for $198 from $119! For those of you who liked it, it could be an opportune time to purchase them for your bridesmaids!
I wish my girls and I were ready to purchase! I haven't even formally asked anyone to be in my wedding party, so it's premature for us to be dress purchasing.
P.S. Obviously I meant on sale for $119 from $198. lol
both boards are lovely, but personally, i think all the blue will not make a big enough statement because it will be surrounded by the natural blue (water, sky, etc). i think incorporating the green (board b) is fantastic!
then again, i'm going all out with bright and bold colors!

Hi everyone!
I am going to post my first two inspiration boards here and I would love your honest feedback. First, I will give you an idea of what I am looking for and looking to avoid in a color pallette.
To set the scene, we are getting married at a gazebo on the lawn of a beautiful castle on the St. Lawrence River and our reception will be a gorgeous room with panoramic views of the river. My dream vision of a wedding has always been something timeless, classic, beautiful, romantic, and calming without being overly girly or fluffy. No ruffles or pink roses for this girl. Shades of blue, lots of monochromatic flowers (whites!), and candles galore are a must for this girl.
I do NOT want a color scheme that I will look back on 5, 10, 15 or 25 years from now and cringe. I love the bright bold weddings that are all the rage right now, but I hate to think what I would think of my photos years from now. Much like the dresses and veils of the 80s (and you know you can picture them without any effort), I do not want a wedding that screams 2009. I want my wedding to be chic and effortless.
My two favorite color ideas so far revolve around (a) shades of ocean blue, ivory and hints of chocolate and (b) an infusion of navy blue with carefully chosen pops of kelly/lime green. I see (a) as being especially romantic, but perhaps a bit broing. I see (b) as being that classic preppy chic a la JCrew or Ralph Lauren, but perhaps a bit too trendy. I will present the inspiration boards here for your feedback. Which do you like and why? Which do you think would work best for what I am going for?
Thanks, ladies!
