Ok, so this is my first cycle TTC, and my first day using OPK. I charted with temping for over a year previously and had extremely regular ovulation on CD 14-16 every month. I’m still charting cycles only, my work schedule just makes it so temping isn’t reliable any more. Yesterday was my first day off my period, I’m on CD 7 right now and FF has O predicted on CD 15 this month. I just took my first OPK and it reads positive (or at least what I think is positive). -____- I wouldn’t be surprised if, say, it read positive on CD 12, or didn’t read positive until CD 17, because it’s possible I’m not perfectly regular. But CD 7? -____-
And to top it off, I read recently the brand of OPK I bought (Walgreens) tends to give false positives. Is using this kit even useful? Pic attached.

Well if you doubt it, buy another brand and see what the other brand says (I like cheapy wondfo from Amazon). That’s definitely a positive.

I had really bad luck with the Walgreens brand. It gave me a false positive when I definitely wasn’t ovulating (I was being monitored by my RE so I knew) and then when I was ovulating it was negative.

My wondfos have always looked like that no matter what day I’ve used them. I have PCOS so I think I just have elevated LH levels (hoping to confirm with my doctor). I’ve also heard that they can read positive when pregnant. Any chance you got pregnant before this cycle? I see it’s your first TTC…

I had a very positive opk on CD 8 which I also thought was weird. Took a hpt and it was also very positive. I was/and still am nervous about it since I had a pretty heavy bleeding just the week before that I thought was my period. Maybe try an hpt?

I had really bad luck with all the cheapie OPKs I tried. The results were always super confusing and I never got pregnant. I finally splurged for the clearblue digital (I bought the regular not the advanced off amazon or walmart- they aren’t too bad), and it was the first time OPKs were helpful and actually not stressful- I got pregnant that month. It was either smiley face or not- no way to give false info or misinterpret. Really recommend them if you are committed to doing OPKs at all.

I hate and love opk’s!! I get addicted to them and rely on them too much. Near my o date I literally rest like 3 times a day. Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say if your cycles are typically regular and you are just starting ttc maybe try without the opk’s for a couple of months first and just go by cm. They can really be more trouble than they’re worth and make you overanalyze a lot (at least in my case ;)). I find myself being more stressed out and irritated when using opk’s than without. If you really want to use them though, there are cheap strips on amazon that have worked well for me. Good luck, bee!

i would buy wondfo, they are super cheap off amazon, and everyone says they are a lot more accurate then the cheap brands you can find in stores. I liked OPKs in the beginning but i found temping more accurate and less annoying.
But Im too starting to get frustrated with temping, my work schedule has been all over the place this month so it was almost impossible to temp at the same time every morning. I gave up temping half way through this month, ill probably pick it back up after AF comes and goes. I just guessed what days i O’ed this month based off my temps from the previous months. Dont know if this month will be a positive, but im not worrying about it to much.
Sometimes taking a month break away from OPK and temping can do some good.

just an update: the next two OPK’s I took with this kit gave positives, so I quit using them. if we don’t manage to conceive this cycle, i’ll probably order the Amazon ones, since it seems people have better luck with that brand…
