All caterers should carry insurance. I would email them and let them know the venue needs proof of their insurance.

I’m not sure about the caterer’s insurance, but we had to get liability insurance of a million dollars to rent our reception space for the day. It cost $50 with my auto insurance company.

you can get a 1 day policy from your homeowners/renters policy for very inexpensive. No matter how small of an area you live in, people should always have insurance if they own a business.
