Ha, yeah right. I'm pretty sure a lot of military wives get married quickly BECAUSE of deployments :P
@ejs4y8: I'm pretty sure a lot of military wives get married quickly BECAUSE of deployments :P
Hahahaha!! Very true.
@ejs4y8: My grandparents had a 3 day engagement because of a deployment! My grandpa thought he'd be able to take a wife where he was going, then his orders changed. By that time she was pregnant with twins and he was off for a year!
I recently read an article about this verse on a Christian website (I wish I could remember where I found it). It talked about how in our day we can't exactly just "take a year off" from work or everything when we get married, but that we do need to limit all the other "extras" in our life when we first get married. Instead of piling more and more responsibilities on our plate, we need to use our first year to build up our marriage. I definitely thought it made a lot of sense.
I actually interpret this differently for our day and age. I believe that this verse shows how important it is to get away on a honeymoon for at least a week. It is so important to just have that time right after you get married to love on one another. So many couples these days are going without the honeymoon in order to have a huge wedding, but I believe that God intended it to be the exact opposite and this verse illustrates that.
I have some friends who take this really literally and try and work less, not try and conceive the first year, etc. because they believe it's just a year to focus on each other and grow as a couple. Kinda cool.
Ohh i do like this one, im showing my FI once he gets off work ;)

As I was doing research for biblical verses for my grandfather to read at the wedding I came across this one:
Deuteronomy 24:5
If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married.
I'm sure there's a lot of military wives that wish this were true today!
