So I set up our Amazon registry okay, but I’m wondering if anyone has had experience close to mine.
We live in Holland, but will be getting married in my hometown in Delaware. Most Dutch people usually just give money for weddings, which is perfect bc it doesn’t weigh down our luggage at all :). But for our American guests, I know how much it means to them to buy actual gifts to support our marriage. Has anyone had experience shipping internationally via Amazon? Is it ridiculously expensive? For electronics, how can I be sure that the plug is European?
If anyone has had experience with this (either as a guest or married couple) it would be really helpful.

Here is a link to Amazon’s International Shipping Information page.
Also, most weddings I’ve been to (all in the US) – the vast majority of gifts are cash/checks. People usually give gifts at showers, not at weddings, at least at all the weddings I’ve been to. I have never once brought a physical gift to a wedding, and if I knew the couple was flying back, I’d definitely bring a check…

@abbie017: Yeah, I had already found that page, but didn’t find it particularly helpful. It doesn’t really cover shipping for gifts from other websites (from the Universal Registry) With my sister’s wedding, people generally just shipped the actual gifts to their house, so sometimes there don’t appear to be many gifts unless you catch a glimpse into the couple’s living room 😉 I also just personally know that most of my (American) crowd prefer physical gifts to monetary ones and I want to be sure that this will work.

I’ve got no real experience with Holland, but have several friends in both Australia and the UK who are constantly using my USA address as the shipping address for certain Amazon purchases, then asking me to ship them overseas for them. Seems to be a bigger issue for electronics than anything else but we did have to ship a pair of teenagers’ football (USA soccer) boots overseas for a friend.
I would have everything shipped to Delaware then bring it in checked bags or ship it home.
I would leave electronics OFF of the registry, because of the plug issue and also because electronics like to disappear from checked baggage. Or register for amazon gift cards.
Amazon is just not really nimble when it comes to international stuff.
