It shouldn’t matter that you’re non-Jewish for a secular teaching position. Wear a shirt that comes up to your collarbone and sleeves that reach or are past your elbows. Wear a skirt that preferably covers your knees when you sit. You should also add pantyhose since that’s more professional for an interview anyway. I don’t know whether this is the type of school where you’ll always be required to wear stockings/pantyhose.

Does the school have a Web site you can look at? There might be pictures on there of the teachers. It will all depend on how conservative the Yeshiva is. You can also call the head of the school to ask. They would welcome you doing do diligence to be respectful of the beliefs of the school.

@Selcier:  I think being dressed professionally would suffice, honestly, you’re not going to find a lovlier group of more intelligent and understanding people than the ones that comprise the Hebrew community…I lived on the edge of one in Manhattan and I’m a tall, tattooed wild drink of water from the Rocky Mountains….I was invited to dinners, holidays, pretty much accepted into the community because I lived there, and the couple that owned the corner store found out I was young and alone in the city….I’ve always admired the religion and their strong sense of commitment and kindness, I hope you have the same experience.

@Selcier:  I’m not entirely sure. I don’t know the level of this yeshivah, so it’s hard to say a 100% yes. My inclination is that they will be more likely to see you as fitting in if you’re wearing a skirt. I would try to find something as close to knee length as you can get, even if its not knee length when sitting.

@Selcier:  Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions about it all.

@Nona99:  What a nice thing to say!
