- Wedding: September 2011
Hi and Happy New Year, everyone! I lurked on the Bee with some frequency throughout my wedding planning, but just created an account today. This was such a great resource for me, and I just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed your words of wisdom and down-to-earth perspectives. There really are some lovely ladies on these boards!
This fall, my Darling Husband and I had the wedding of our dreams, on a fairly tiny budget and without a lot of stress. Honestly, it was more lovely and beautiful and fun and relaxed than we dared to hope. But that was mostly due to our amazingly generous friends who all pitched in with their time and talent to assist us in a largely DIY/DIT wedding weekend. So as we head into the new year, I want to wish all of you brides-to-be an equally relaxed, joyous, and fun day. And I also want to encourage you to resist the madness–the multiple showers, the four day bachelorette parties, the coordinated Bridesmaid or Best Man hair/makeup/shoes–and instead take time to reflect on what you really want your wedding to be like. For us, that meant peeling potatoes and cutting flowers and grilling and drinking champagne with our best friends on a perfect fall day as we prepared to self-cater our rehearsal dinner. It meant a small wedding that a) we could afford without pulling our hair out and b) allowed us to actually spend time with all our loved ones.
Finally, a toast: To our friends and families; to gratitude, graciousness, and generosity; to all the bees’ husbands (present and future); and to making 2012 wonderful.
