I really wouldn't worry about it. I don't normally address envelopes with waterproof ink. The odds of your envelopes getting exposed to any significant amount of water in the mail is pretty small. And really, they only have to get there, right? Most people are not going to save the invitation, let alone the envelope. We addressed ours (and our RSVP envelopes) with regular (not waterproof) ink. Of course I didn't see the invitation envelopes after mailing, but every RSVP envelope came back in really good condition - no addresses were smudged or water marked.

So I've been doing some calligraphy practicing, got my invitation envelopes in the mail, and am set to do some hand-lettering. Only one problem. I love my non-waterproof-ink-compatible fountain pen, but I've read that you should use waterproof ink for addressing -- humidity, friction, etc. can cause the ink to smudge. Does anyone know if this is really a problem? Should I get a new pen and ink (I'm trying to stay away from the markers -- the tips are too thick)? Try the spray that keeps ink from smudging? If I use the spray will it make the envelopes shiny?
I must have too much time on my hands to be concerned about this...
