I’m having an issue with my invitations. We’re using DIY invitations from Michael’s that you print your information. I already bought the boxes. However, I completely forgot to print them over winter break! Now I’m at college 1000 miles away. Is it worth it to have my mom send the boxes down here and print them here or can I wait until Spring Break (starting March 9th – about 2 months before the wedding) to print them out and send them? It would be easier to do over Spring Break because I will have access to a nice computer but I’m concerned that it may be too late.
All of our guests have already received Save the Dates and have our wedding website link with all of the information, if that makes a difference.
Thanks for reading this rant!

It is not a rant at all….. all of these wedding rules are for the birds….. But I will say if you are having a larger wedding for your own santity, you want to make sure you get them to people two months in advance. I would say as long as people have them by Mid March you should be fine.
I do have a few questions or rather suggestions so that it will be less stressfull when you go to print them because invevitably there are always some type fo printer problems.
1. Do you alerady have your template for your invitations and RSVP cards made up?
2. Do you have a backup plan in the event of printer malfunction
3. How will you address your envelopes, with labels, wrap around labels or print directly on the envelope.
Just food for thought because it can be a hassle, so try to get as much done as possible before you return home so that all you have to do is print them.

When do you need to have final numbers to your venue/venders? I think you need at least 5 weeks for RSVPS. A week for the invite to get to your guests, 2 weeks for them to make what ever arangements they need to make, 1 week for them to forget to send it in, and another week for it to arive in the mail to you. And then you need another week to call people who haven’t goten back to you yet. This is really going to push your time if your venue/venders need info from you well in advance of the wedding.

@creeative1: That makes sense. Thank you! I know exactly what the invitations are going to say but I haven’t created the template yet. My father runs a business fixing computers and printers and is going to help me so I’m not too worried about printer malfunction. However, if something goes wrong with one of our printers, our church said we can print them off of their printer. I haven’t thought about addressing the envelopes. I will start thinking about that. Thank you for all of the questions – you really helped!
@Misswhowedding: I can’t believe I didn’t think of the numbers. Well we’re not using a traditional wedding venue so I don’t have to give them numbers at all. I believe our caterer wants the numbers a month in advance. So by that count, I should probably send them out a little earlier than Spring Break. Thanks!

Oh most definitely if your caterer wants the final numbers 30 days in advance…. OH wow… When I booked my venue I had to give them an estimate, which for us was a hundred. Two weeks before the event I had to give them a final count. NOwing that I agree with Misshowedding….. you need to get your invites out at soon as possible if your caterer wants the FINAL number 30 days in advance.
ONe thing I an say having been through the process, you want to give people as much time as possible… there may be some people who never get the invitations and you will need to send them another one when you place your calls.. There wiill be people who won’t respond.
Here is another alternative…. can you go ahead and create the template and send it to your dad and have him print them out…. Once they are printed he could send them all to you, to address or put your final seal of approval on and get them mailed.
Also, doesnt Michaels have printing capabilities… I thought I remembered seeing that when I was looking for invitatoins.

@creeative1: Yeah once she mentioned that I was like oh no 🙁 I can’t believe I didn’t think of that!
That is a great idea! I’m going to ask him. He’s generally pretty good about that stuff. If not my mom can probably help. She’s been helping a lot with the wedding.
I think they do at some but my invitations are in another state anyway.
Thank you for your reply! I’m going to ask my dad tomorrow.
