Has anyone had issues with mailing out their invitations?
I ordered square pocketfolds from cards and pockets and DIY’d my inserts. I took several completed invitations to the post office a couple of weeks ago. The teller consulted with a few other people and I was told each would be $1.40. I was expecting the oversize charge and for them to be a tad heavy. No big deal.
Today I go into the post office with my box of 70 invitations. I wait my turn and am excited to be mailing them out. I go up to the counter and she takes one and says, “Another one of these.” With a big sigh! She pulls out her little chart that shows the sizing of the envelope. Then she calls over a man from the back. They are discussing how rigid it is. So after about five minutes I get told that my invitations will have to mailed as a parcel and would be $2.23 a piece!! I told her that I was her a couple of weeks ago and I was told a different price. She just looks at me and says,”It’s too rigid. Do you want to mail them?” I was irritated and didn’t want to deal with her anymore so I left with my invitations.
I’ve been reading on the usps.com website about flexibility/rigidness of envelopes. It shows what to do as a test and I believe my envelope bends enough. The one side is a bit stiffer than the others but that is the It still seems to be up to the postal employee. It does state on their website that if a customer demonstrates the rigidness of an item tat the employee shouldn’t do any testing on it. The clerk never did this test on my envelope. She just said it is too rigid.
I received an invitation in the mail that was also a pocketfold and it wasn’t a parcel rate on it. I’m debating about trying another post office, just mailing them with the $1.40, or what to do. I need to get them mailed in the next week. I don’t really want to hand them out but I suppose I could.
Is there anyone familiar with the workings of the post office and how they classify things? I was thinking they would need to be hand canceled and oversized and be all good. Any thoughts/information would be sooo appreciated. Sigh! It’s always seems to be something.
