I just wanted to post this in case it helped other brides avoid a headache!
When we printed our mailing envelopes I put little dots in between the numbers for the zipcode. I had seen this ALL over pinterest and thought it was really cute (like so, http://www.pinterest.com/pin/203013895674412086/). If I could go back, I WOULDN’T DO IT AGAIN! When I dropped the invites at the post office, the clerk mentioned that the machines might have difficulty reading the zipcodes, so it would probably slow down the invites by 2 or 3 days. Well, for some guests that 2 or 3 days has turned into 4 WEEKS. Some of the invites have been going to two or three different states ( based on postmarks) before finally landing at their proper destinations. Some are still MIA. The ones that have shown up late have had all sorts of markings with the zip codes circled. It makes no sense that some invitations made it within a day of my mailing them, and others that are just down the street from those guests haven’t gotten their’s. Or that one got to Alaska fine, but some within the city I mailed from are still missing. I can only imagine it’s some combination of machine error/disgruntled employees hand sorting at the post office.
Long story short, don’t fancy up the zip codes unless you want aggravation! And if you do, mail them early and have extras on hand. They looked cute, but were not worth the headache.
