We’re thinking ahead to our invitations, and are faced with a bit of a problem. Working backwards:
Final count due to venue: 1/10/12
Hotel room blocks released to public: 12/22/11
Invitations sent: probably before Thanksgiving
The question is… what should we set as a reply-by date? I want to be sure that people have enough time to reserve a room (even though most people will know about it already… some family members are notorious procrastinators), we need enough time to get the straggler RSVPs and make phone calls, but we don’t want the RSVPs to get lost in the holiday shuffle.
Has anyone faced this issue, or one like it? What should we do?
(Sidenote: yes, we’re sending save-the-dates, and yes, we’re setting up a highly informative website).

Our wedding is Jan 8th, and we are sending out the invites at the end of October (I know, super early). We are asking for a response by November 22. We want to get all the responses in before Thanksgiving so as to avoid holiday mail. I also want people to decide about the wedding before they make their holiday plans. The hotel block is up on Dec. 8. Which I am a little nervous about because half the rooms are already booked, due to our very informative website 🙂 We didn’t even send STD. Mostly beacuse there are some family memebers that we hoped didn’t save the date. Is that terrible ??????
So the invites just came in. I will update you on how the timing works.

@magilnyc: Oh yes, we have a few guests whose STD might just get “lost” in the mail… juuust kidding 😀 but I know what you mean (drat those courtesy invites). I’ll be interested to hear how your timing works out!
