If you are going to state the attire, it goes on the lower left corner of the reception card. If your reception is listed on the same card as your ceremony then it is not approporiate to mention the attire anywhere.

Proper attire is something people always wonder about, so I would print it in the lower left-hand corner of the invitation.  It’ll save you from a lot of phone call inquiries as you get closer to the wedding.

Also recommend including it on your wedding website.

I know there are "proper" etiquette rules, but how many formal events do people ever receive invitations to where they would know the difference?  Does anyone get offended if an invitation specifies attire?

i agree with SoCalBeachGirl, if attire is something you want to address then put it at the bottom of your invite in a smaller size than the rest of the text on your invitation.
