My family is so far not going to be involved in my wedding and neither is his. I have a pre-teen daughter from a previous marriage and am trying to have her feel as included as we can in this whole new life we are creating.
Any thoughts on how to word the invites? Even if my family does come around and "give their blessing" I still don't want it to be about them but about us and the creation of the new family.
I haven't seen much that doesn't sound lame or overly sappy.

We didn't use our parents names (even though mine are paying, but we didn't want it to sound too formal) and instead used: "Bride & Groom invite you to share in our happiness as we join hands in marriage".
I've actually seen it done where the invitation is sent "from" the daughter. It would say something like
daughtersname requests the honor of your presence at the union of yourname and yourFIsname (you can also use mother and father if that's what she calls him or mother and father #2 or some other cute title for him)
Because you have shared in our lives by your friendship and love, we your name and his name together with our daugherinvite you to share the beginning of our new life together when we exchange marriage vows

<font><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size="1" color="#000000">Because you have shared in our lives

your name and
his name together with our daugherinvite you to share
the beginning of our new life together

Your Name

His Name
Invite you to share
in the celebration of
Our Marriage and the Uniting
Of our family.
