I have started looking at possible places for invitations and I cant get over how much these suckers cost! Plus you have to add on the response card and the postage! We are having a small wedding, but I dont think I will be able to get out under $300...

And of course this one particular style I like are square and then I found out that those are extra postage! Ugh.

So, where did yall get your invitations? Did you order them online or did you go to a local place? If you went to a local place, did you get a better deal?

We went through a local stationary place.  We're getting 160 invitations, rsvp postcards AND they are doing the addressing for us for right at $300 (not including stamps).

I got mine from etsy seller jpascarella1, and I think the invitations themselves (invitation, rsvp postcard, and reception insert) were less than $2 a set and fully customized.  You can also get standard white envelopes from her for no additional cost, I believe.  Good luck!

VPonsale.com   Mine were $52.00 they are nice too..but watch out for the R.S.V.P cards if you purchase a black back ground, as a pen will not show up on them at all.

I purchased mine from Carlson Craft via a friend.  Paid less than $100 for 50 invites, response cards, and stamps.

Sorry, but I'm one of those Bees that went the Basic invite route since I know that my invites would be in a landfill somewhere.

I made mine.  From the pocket-fold to the inserts.  All for under $30... for 80 sets.  Of course, we're also going for informal/fun more than formal.

I went to Michaels Craft Store! I was super gung-ho on DIYing everything, but then soon came to the realization that many people would be "tossing" these out after the vent! AHHH! Not all my hard work and money!

So I got these! AND the best part is how much I paid, thank goodness for coupons! xo I got two sets for under $40!

We did a combination of Wedding Paper Divas and DIY.  I wish I had pictures.

I know that we spent $150ish on around 60-65 invitations.  They were lovely!  I then created my own pocket envelopes and inserts.  We "matched" the taupe colour and font of the wording on the printed invites for the inserts, used cotton/linen paper and used a shimmery paper for the belly band.  I think, on the pocket folds, including glue, paper, the Martha Stewart punch, I probably spent another $50.

Basic route for print your own is obviously the cheapest and you can totally jazz them up if you want to.

Yea, the cost of Invitations surprised me too. We went through a local Pittsburgh company called Paper Spade. They printed 60 custom Invitations, RSVP postcards, and a directions insert with envelopes for a total of $247. I'm planning on getting a nice calligraphy font and using the clear Avery labels for the envelopes. It helped that we put down a 50% deposit and paid the rest 1 month later.

I agree with Michaels! I got my invites for $90. I did some custom stuff to the invites that added another $20 to the total. But they turned out amazing! My guests all thought they were professionally done!

We ordered our invites from WeddingPaperDivas.com and got these. I believe we spent $225 on them (not including postage). This is what we got:

    80 Invites
    90 Invite envelopes
    80 RSVP cards
80 RSVP envelopes w/ return address printed on

One tip if you order from an online site: do a search to see if you can find coupons. I found a promotion that took $50 off our order!

I used Vistaprint and couponed like a beast.  I got:

    90 invitations and envelopes

90 RSVP cards (with free envelopes)

90 thank you cards (with free envelopes)

    bunch of free address labels

    20 rehearsal dinner cards

    10 church wedding invitations

For about $110.  Also DIYed maps and directions and just paid about $10 extra for the paper and printing at Kinko's.  The stamps cost more than the invites!

Isn't the cost crazy!?!!  The worst part for our wedding is that I only needed 12 invitations. There was no way I was going to pay for 13 cards that I wasn't going to use so, I ended up designing them myself, bought the paper from Paper Source and had my FI print them at his work.

We had a small fail though, I forgot to request people to put their initials next to their meal selection so I have to redesign the RSVP card and have it printed at Kinko's.

Vistaprint. I think I paid $60 for 50 invitations and RSVP postcards and 100 business cards to let guests know about our photo upload site. I'm too lazy to look up what it would have cost for just the invites. :)

@HoneyBear: I've heard their regular paper stock is a bit flimsy.  I didn't care and ordered it anyway, and I got a free upgrade to the heavier matte paper stock.  It is not expensive at all to upgrade to the heavier matte or linen finish paper though...only a few bucks.  I efficiently used LivingSocial coupons to get the best possible deal.  Hours of my life are gone trying to figure all that out...but I'm happy :)

I got mine from Target on clearance. All 75 of my invitations cost about $40 total. I knew these were going to get thrown away so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on them.

We also went the Michael's route and are in the middle of printing them all out.  Using coupons, I think I got 150 invites for about $60.  Considering the ones I had my heart set on were going to be over $600, I think we got a good deal.  :)

We're getting ours from Wedding Paper Divas.  I honestly haven't looked at a lot of other places though.  I also got scared away from the square ones because I refused to pay extra postage...lol

www.weddingpaperdivas.com is their website if you want to check them out!

I'm designing my own, and having a local shop print them on nice paper. I think it will come out to about $150 for 170 invitations, envelopes, rsvp cards, and inserts.

(I found that printing black and white on this fancy, shimmery paper is the same price as printing color on plain cardstock! so that's certainly a way to save money...)

Honestly I spent less than $20 on my invitations, including envelopes, reply cards, and a small insert with our personal information and wedding website for 200 invitations.  I found them on clearance at Wal Mart.  I recieved a ton of compliments on them.  It wasn't something terribly important to me and they're just going to end up being trashed for the most part.  My MOH said they looked almost identical to hers minus the vellum and she spent  $700+ on her invites.  Of course this doesn't include postage. However since I went for more simple invites postage was only the standard 0.44$.

    I'm using Minted.

Have you considered purchasing a digital design and printing it at home?  I think it's one step up from the Michael's route.  Check out:

Not as pretty as some of the ones on Etsy. But so many artists and you can contact them directly and see if they will do something custom for you.

STD post cards- $75 for 75

    Invite- $121 for 80

Respond post card- $80 for 80

And I got a steal on custom postage stamps--keep an eye out for sales! I paid $40.60 for 4 sheets of 20 each. That's only 50 cent for 44 cent stamps.

I got mine at Target, they were on clearance (50 invites w/ envelopes, 50 responce cards with envelopes) for $20 each, I bought the last 2. They are plain white card stock with a black edge, a sliver "pocket" and black envelopes. This was the 1st thing I bought and started our black and silver (I've since added eggplant purple) color scheme. They're DIY invites and I will either be having them printed at Kinko's for 59 cents each or a print shop, 75 invites and 75 responces for $100. I'm debating if I want flat print or embossed print, we'll see. Since they're a little plain Im going to stamp and emboss a design in the corners.

I think you should check out several DIY invitations and see what you like. Look online or if you have a Walmart, Michaels or Target by you I know you can save $$$ by doing them yourself. The other bee's have great ideas and use their experience to your advantage. God knows, I have!!! Good luck.

We are getting ours from Zazzle.com. They are about $1.90 per invite, but they drop to $.70 due to being bought in bulk.
