I am having a fairly laid back, yet "formal" wedding. We are a fun, no-nonsense couple who likes a good laugh and we don't want people to think otherwise by sending out stuffy, formal invitations. Although formal invitations are beautiful, I don't think they portray the day we are planning. The wedding is at 11 with lunch reception to immediately follow in the same place with a jazz bank, italian food buffet, beer and wine. Apple themed. November.

    What do you think?

This company has a cartoonist draw your faces from photos and put them on the invites...I think it's pretty funny and cute...but I don't always have the best taste. Lol.

I'm not really a fan of the cartoony invitation, but if you love it, then go with it. My only complaint about the sample is that I don't like the formality of the wording for such fun invitation.

We had digital illustration invitations, done my a family member of ours who is a professional graphic designer, and we adored them, as did our guests. We had a casual/formal wedding like you (semi-formal venue, but overall, matched our laid-back, fun-loving personalities), and we used the illustration on our programs and menu cards, too. Guests kpet coming up to us and saying how much they loved them.

I say go for it :)

I voted hate it, but really I mean don't love it. It just seems a little too informal and makes me thing of skeezy guys on the boardwalk trying to get you to buy a picture. I think I love it for a STD or thank yous, and like it for programs and stuff, but don't like it for the invite.

I love it and it seems to fit your personality!!! I say go for it. We actually just got an invite where they used a caricature they had done for their semi-formal wedding, even though I don't really know the couple, my FI grew up with the groom. But for me who doesn't really know them, it speaks volumes to their personality and I can't wait for the wedding!

Honestly, I think it would be cute for a save the date or something, but I don't love it as an invite. There are so many whimsical paper goods out there that I think you can have a "no nonsense" and fun invite without having your cartoon faces on it. I dunno, I just see having pictures of the couple as more of a save the date thing than an invitation.

But if you love it, that's what matters. go for it.

Also, we will redo the wording ourselves, that is just sample wording.

Although it's never something I'd use myself (our wedding is more traditional, formal, etc), I do think that they are fun and seem to fit the theme and feel of your event.

Also, if you're unsure about using them for invites, I think they'd be wonderful for Save the Dates!  Then you could do something else that is casual but maybe a little less so for the actual invitations.

we already sent STDs...they were the photocard type with out actual picture on it. Also very casually done. =)

I am probably just overthinking this anyways! Lol.

I think the idea is great ... I don't actually love the execution here (the cartoon style doesn't work for me) but if you do like it, you should go for it.

I have no problems with informal and fun invitations, but I have to be honest and say that I find the cartoon drawing kinda creepy.  I think there are better options out there if you want something fun and unique.

I like the idea of them but I'm never a fan of the big head, could he draw them without the oversized heads?  Also, the ring box makes it seem more like an engagement announcement but I'm just being picky.  If I got the invitation I would honestly think super cute.  But ideally those are the changes I'd make.

I totally get the idea you are going for, but I'm just not a fan of the styling of the whole thing. If I were you, I would go with something from one of the small, independent shops out there that specializes in fun design. I love: http://www.hellolucky.com. And here are two invites you might like (changed for your needs of course):

I agree with tulip.  Check out this artist:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/NanLawson

She made an awesome print of 'our family' that I'm giving my husband as a wedding gift and using at our entrance table.

I voted hot and cold...I like the idea of it and I think it would be absolutely awesome if you were standing or sitting under an apple tree (since apples appear to be your theme).

I think what I don't like about it is the formality of the wording vs the casual look of the drawing. Maybe if he could make the picture a little less cartoony and the wording a little less formal ... to meet halfway.

This reminds me of a savethedate that was posted on thebudgetsavvybride.com sit last week. They scanned a picture of a caricature that was previously drawn of the couple and used that for the STD. I really liked that style.

Before I ramble even longer, all in all I guess I like the invitations...there's just a few things I would do differently if it were me. BUT if I got your invite in the mail I'd probably immediately call you and compliment how cute it is!

I said love it.  I really like invites that show a little personality of the couple and that don't look like every other invitation out there.  One of my best friend's agonized for hours about the font and color of her very run of the mill, forgettable invites.  My other best friend sat down with her aunts for a few hours and made all of her invites scrap book style. The scrapbooked invite was about 10 times more charming and memorable than the other one.  Ultimately it's your wedding.  Do what makes you happy and what you think will most appropriately showcase/represent your and your fiance's personalities.

I did cartooned shower invitations for my daughter and I heard some of the same comments. One person thought they were creepy too,but we thought they were funny and a great likeness. The person that did the ones in your sample did a great job with them, but I think the colors you choose for yours might make a big difference in opinions.  I think if you like them you should do it. They are certainly not generic! I really would prefer those to some I've seen that look like kids birthday party invites.

I like it but if it is a formal wedding I think this invitation gives guest a different idea. They are very fun but more for a backyard wedding or informal one.

I voted Love it cause I really like them (although I find the heads to be a little too big, but that's cartoons I guess). But, after having given it some more thought -- since you write it'll be a semi-formal wedding maybe these invites might be a little too laid-back? They would be indeed great for Save-the-Date cards (if you do them) or maybe to use as a thank you-card, though then a cartoon of you both on your wedding day rather the during the proposal would be more appropriate.

Thank you everyone. Now I'm on the fence about them and I think I've come to a GREAT solution.

I'm going to go slightly more traditional for the invites with the type the fold up and have the detachable RSVP card postcard BUT...

GETTING CARTOON THANK YOUS! =) hooray.

Wonderful choice using them as thank yous! And if you still want to go a little 'fun' rather than traditional for the invites....I love the recommondations from @monitajb. You can also find some really fun invites on etsy! Beware though: I can look at invites (or anything really) on etsy for hours and hours.
