That depends. Is it a destination wedding?  Or semi-destination?  Have you sent out save the date’s?  Will you be sending out save the date’s?  If you have lots of out of town folks,  I would send invitations out 2 months prior.  If most everyone is in town, one month prior is sufficient.  Also you should look to see when your venue, caterer, etc needs to have final numbers.

I second all of what otb said. I sent my invites out 5 months early because the majority of the guest list needs to book hotel rooms and we’re getting married in the height of summer in an area that is very common for tourists. So I need people to be booking hotels… NOW! 😛 I also need my final count numbers 2 months before so my Out of Town guests only really get 3 months to book flights, hotels and let me know they’re coming.

Generally 6-8 weeks is the common time frame before your wedding to send out your invites though.

Generally 6-8 weeks ahead is the guideline. The majority of our guests are flying across the country for our wedding so I plan to send our invitations about 10 weeks ahead, with an RSVP request deadline by 5-6 weeks before the wedding. I do not at all expect to get all or even most of the RSVPs that early but it never hurts to shoot for the stars.

We are date twins!!!! Because we need a final count about a month before the wedding, we will send our invites out about 2-2 1/2 months before, so probably the first of July

I’m not doing Save the Dates, have spread the word re: the wedding date as much as I could, and plan to send them 10 weeks prior.
