Yes it's okay! Just make sure to address them in an ink color that is easy to read. We used black envelopes for our RD invites and everyone received theirs... we used opaque gold ink.
i don't think it matters.. for example if your invites are red with orange writing it could be cool to have an orange envelope with red writing or an orange envelope with red flourishes and black writing... or vice versa...
or maybe I could tie the gold in as the ink on the outside of the envelpes?

Is it ok for the invite envelopes to colors other than ivory and white? What about apple red or orange even?
