I just realized this weekend after one of our showers that I sent an invtite to one of FIL’s friend’s with the completely wrong first names on it. I was looking over the gift list from the shower and saw the firstname lastname combo and it raised a flag. After looking over my list from the wedding I asked Future Father-In-Law for the couples first names and they are completely wrong in my list, but I totally saw where I messed up.
Future Mother-In-Law gave me a handwritten list with her friends info. She has the handwriting of a serial killer writing their manifesto, so I asked Fiance to clarify some of the names. He doesn’t really know some of the people though, so I think when I asked about this couple after deciphering her handwriting he just agreed with me that “Mel and Lorraine SoNso” were “Lawrence and Mae SoNso”. So Lawrence and Mae got our invitation, but Lorraine came to the shower and gave us our kickass salad spinner. I am mortified.
The funny thing to me though is that she didn’t say anything to Future Mother-In-Law about it.
A word of advice to all new brides going through the list process. Confirm your final list with your parents and FIL’s if they are inviting people you are not familiar with.
Anyone else out there have a similar situation with their invitations?

I spelled my grandfather’s name wrong and didn’t realize it until the response card came back. Fail…

Oh no!! I didn’t have anything quite as bad, but my Future Mother-In-Law wanted to invite a few of her friends to the wedding and somehow we managed to mispell each of her three friends on the invitation. I felt pretty bad about it. Thankfully we’ll have it right for the seating cards at least!

@atlas.wed: Yes, and Lawrence won’t be getting the Thank You card for the shower gift either!
Couple this with my 2 aunts having to put their own stamps on the RSVP cards because I let a few slip through the crack, and I think I can safely say I suck at invitations!

@Ms. Peach: Ahhh! At least you found out before Thank Yous went out! 🙂

I wrote my own grandfather’s name wrong on our program. Just a total mind-blip. I sent it to my mom to proof and she was like Um… my dad’s name was James not William… haha. It happens!

Glad to know I’m not alone. I guess when you send out 150+ invitations the odds are a little stacked against you.
