I did 5×7 invitations.  The main (script) font was 18pt, our names were 24pt and some smaller details at the bottom were 12pt.  It really depends on the font though – the script font (Honey Script from dafont) was really small.  I think I started with it at 12pt and just played with it until it looked right.

It COMPLETELY depends on what you’ve selected for a font. Not all fonts are the same size. 12 point of Times New Roman is not the same as 12 point Curlz!

You never want to go less than 7, or more than 12 on something on paper that people will be holding to read. But really, the best way to decide is to print some samples on similar sized paper and see how it looks.

If it helps, a 72-point font is one inch of actual printed space. But always print a copy of the invite, you’ll know if it looks too big or too small. Do NOT just look at it on the screen!

I made my own, so I printed off a couple samples and got my 50 year old boss to read them.  When she said she had a hard time reading, I knew it was too small.
