- Wedding: October 2010
Haven’t been on here in a while, as it’s very busy–I’m sure you can all understand, but I wanted to share an interesting story.
The woman who is playing at my wedding is one of my friend’s mom. I’ve known them both since I was in grade school. The daughter and I used to be really close, but since high school we kind of grew apart. She’s invited to the wedding, so she asked a few months ago if we would like her and her mom to sing and play at the wedding. I politely declined her singing, but I told her that we’d love to have her mom play and she was thrilled at that. A close friend of my parents from church was going to be singing at the wedding.
Anyway, a few months later I get a call from the mom who is playing for us, and she wanted to know if she could give her invite to her daughter’s boyfriend (her daughter asked her to do this)! So what, she’s going to play at our ceremony and then go home??? NO. Her daughters have a tendency to treat their poor mom like garbage, and she goes to all sorts of lengths to make them happy.
I didn’t want my friend’s boyfriend there, specifically cause I’ve never met him AND we already sent the invites AND we actually have rules about this kind of thing. Couples can only come if:
-or we know each person as an individual
So I explained this to her, and I didn’t really hear back from her, but they sent their RSVP back with YES they (her and her mom) would be attending. I also found out that I don’t think my friend is dating anyone again. UGH. That’s good, right?
Yep, well, a few days ago we get a call from our singer, and told her that my friend’s mom called and asked “Tara and (daughter’s name) have been good friends and are close, can she sing at her wedding instead of you?” WHOA! I was blown away! yes, this girl is my friend but I see her maybe once a year! There is no way we were going to let this slide. Still not sure what is going on in this situation but we made it quite clear to the singer we have that she’s not going anywhere! Seriously, that’s so rude! 🙁 I can only imagine how horrible our singer felt after hearing her ask that. SIGH.
So yeah, it’s been a crazy week, sorry this has been one hell of a rant. Thanks, bees!
