I don't get it, why would you send an invitation to the Obamas? (I'm Australian, if that makes a difference!)
I'm not sure I get it either. Is this a common thing to do in the states?
ya i dont get it either (i'm from Canada). i told my FI though and he said maybe Obama will send a gift even though he can't attend? in that case, i wish i invited him to mine!
Oh, oops, I might have voted for yes, but really I should have voted No.
I didn't include an RSVP card since I knew they weren't going to actually use the RSVP. They just use the address.
@banana_anna: I know I sent one because I wanted a letter from the Obama's congratulating us on our wedding. It's very nice.
All the presidents do this. If Bush was still president, you could send one to the white house and get one in return with his signature.
I know if you live in England, you could send one to the queen and you would get a letter from her. I really wanted one, too bad I don't know anyone who lives in London. (ETA: Oh, shoot, I do know someone in England. Crap! )
I, also, sent one to Disney and I got a letter from Cinderella and Prince Charming. We are both big Disney fans, although, my husband is a huge disney fan.
Any way, it's just something nice to have.
For those of you in Austrailia, it would be like a letter of congrats from your president. Or do you have a president or is it a prime minister. Sorry, I'm not familiar with how your government is run. Sorry. :/
ETA: Oh, I don't have a photo of my card but I know a few bees posted what their card looked like. If I remember, I'll go home and take a pic and show you all. I think it's really cool. I still support Obama. Although, my husband, doesn't. I don't think he was as excited about it as I was. He was really excited about the disney one. lol
Don't include the Rsvp, I would just be wasted.
People invite the President and first lady to get back a commemorative card with good wishes "signed" by the president.
i was so curious about this i had to google it, apparently the president gets hundreds of wedding invites every week! even STDs!
Oh, and the signature looks like it was signed with real ink. It didn't look stamped like I thought it would be. I was really surprised by that. I doubt Obama actually signed it but it was a really nice detail.
ETA: Oh, and I hear depending on the time of year, there might be a really long delay. I heard a few months to get a reply. Although, I was lucky and got it before my wedding.
@yrret107 - you can invite Past Presidents, you still get back a nice note and with those sometimes they personally sign them instead of them being stamped signatures. We got ours back already from Bush Sr and it is actually his signature and not a repoduction.
@tksjewelry: Really, I didn't know that. That's cool.
@banana_anna: I don't know if it works the same here in Australia. FI is from here and it's where we're currently living so I tried to find an address to send an invite to Julia Gillard but as of yet, have been unsuccessful. We mailed ours off to the Obamas a couple of weeks ago and can't wait for the response! I had hoped we'd be able to put responses from Obama and Gillard side by side in an album but looks like that won't work out.
I feel asleep after I posted this! LOL!! BUt it looks like other bees have let you all know why! LOL
I wanted to put his response on our guestbook table in a frame!! :) I hope it comes back in time!
I sent one to Oprah as well HOPING to get something back! :) Or shoot for her to come!!! LOL
Here's the address!

@Donnica22: I'm sending one to all the ones you listed- so thanks for saving me some time!
I wouldn't include the RSVP as Idon't see they'll use it, as they send their own reply back don't they? I think it's a fab momento to have!
I included an rsvp mostly so the address would be clear. We got ours back in about 3 weeks.
Just for the record it's not his "real" signature. Presidents since the 1950's have been using an autopen which is a machine that makes it look more life like for non official documents. While you might get a nice memento, it's not authentic. I would think (and hope) our president has more things to do then reply to hundreds of invites each week. :)
Ok, don't know why my reply button isn't working.
But Donnica, thanks for the Pope's address. I didn't think of that when we sent our invites. I didn't know we could. I think I'm going to send one of my 2 year old invites to him. lol
I included the rsvp card/envelope because I wanted to make sure they knew the address to RSVP to, but I didn't stamp the return envelope.
i sent one off to them. havent gotten anything though. sent it about 4 weeks ago and there 4 weeks until the wedding (gave him time to fly here!)
i sent off to disneyland, disneyworld, and yes...dont laugh, taylor swift. disneyland gave a black and white photo of minnie and mickey signed with our names. i might have cried just a little from pure excitement! and a pin said newlyweds.
from disneyworld i got a certificate signed by cinderella i think. not as exciting.
nothing from obama or taylor swift.
@teamkogi: I haven't done Disney yet. Still thinking about it. Gotta ration my invites! LOL!
The Obamas and Mickey and Minnie are on our invite list haha. Can't wait to send one off to both of them (as long as we have the extra invitations).
We sent them an invite to our reception (which took place a week after our wedding). It didn't occur to me not to send an RSVP card. I agree with the people above that it might help ensure that the people responding have your address. But no need to waste a stamp if you don't want to on the return envelope.
Apparently, the wording on our invite confused them a little. We got a nice response, but it was with a letter they must send out for anniversaries -- it congratulated us on our many years of committment to one another! I told my husband it was the Obamas giving us the thumbs up for the two years we lived in sin before getting hitched.
@yrret107: from Cinderella and Prince Charming? That's so cute! I would have thought it would come from Mickey and Minney but that's way more fun.
@cbgg: Cinderella and Prince Charming is the reply from Disney World, Mickey and Minnie send one back from Disneyland :)
@Ree723: yeah i've never heard of sending one to Julia Gillard...I guess people have probably done it before, but it's not commonplace.
I really had no idea that you could send them to all of these people! it seems like a silly idea, but a definitly a fun one!
i've got to admit, i think it's a bit odd, and i'd never heard of it til Weddingbee! but do kind of love it! (The FI would never allow it though- waste of money!)
Nice!!! I am soo doing this! Especialy disney world and disney land!!!! *squees in joy*

I'm getting ready to send my invite to the Obamas and I was wondering for those that did, did you send an RSVP card along with it? I knw they send back a very nice reply but it won't fit in my RSVP envelope.
Just curious and have NO idea if I should.
Also to Micke & Minnie! :)
