Invite wording for cake reception

posted 2 months ago in Beehive

How should we indicate on our wedding invitation that we will have a cake and punch reception following the ceremony? Would "Cake Reception to Follow" be appropriate???

"Cake and punch reception to immediately follow" at the bottom would be just fine

I think that sounds great.  :]

I think your idea sounds wonderful and fully alerts folks not to come starving and expect to be served dinner. Here's what we did.

We had a cookie buffet reception that started at 2pm. I timed it so that people could get lunch before they came and be done in time for a late dinner (since they'd fill up on cookies and not need to eat too early). I wanted to let everyone know in a way that made them excited to come and not in a way that seemed like "hey we don't have enough money to feed you, so join us for something cheaper." Hehe! So, I made an insert card with the header Reception. And put the following...

Immediately following the ceremony, please join us for a cookie buffet provided by the wonderful Darby Starnes of Petite Chou. You can check out a preview at www.petitechou.com. And what better to go with the best cookies you've ever had than gormet coffee, irish tea, hot cocoa, and good ol' elementary school approved milk. And we couldn't have an Irish wedding without toasts, so come prepared with your best advise, your favorite quote, or your most hillarious story about the bride and groom because we'll be opening the floor to everyone.

We got a lot of compliments on the wording and no one ever complained or felt jipped over not being fed dinner.
