    As an effort to cut down on invitation costs I was thinking about putting driving directions on the back of the invitation and reception cards.  SO my questions are as follows - is that practical or tacky?

    Also, is it really necessary to include a map/directions with the invites? I plan on putting all the info on the wedding website, but I worry that not everyone will be computer savvy.

    Is your wedding at a location that your guests are fimilar with?

    We had map only because our wedding was DW and our guests were not fimilar with the area. I did have a seperate card which was a map on the one side and on the other was the map key and directions. The map key included the address of the wedding, parking information and one of the hotels. All other information and a more in depth map was located on our wedding website.

    @pansyshell:

    Did you make your own map? If so, how did you do it?

    @cmarti45: I don't think it's necessary then. I did make my own map. I actually just drew it and based it off a map from Google. After I had my dad scan it into the computer. I had him cut/copy the symbols I had used for the landmarks on the front to include in the key on the back.

    Here's a picture I posted on another thread. I know it's hard to see the detail. The bottom left is the map and the bottom right is the back:

    I think maps can be cute, but in the age of smart phones they're just not necessary anymore.  That being said, a lot of older guests asked us where our wedding was at...we figured the name of the hotel was obvious enough.  Everyone figured it out though.  If you need to cut something this is an easy one!
