The post office is not my friend. I had some people in a suburb of Chicago receive my invites one day after I sent them from California and others in the same city got them TWO WEEKS after I sent them. They all went out on the exact same day. Recently I've heard from people who live in the same area as me (mail should only take 1 day) that they sent their responses back 4 or 5 days ago and I still have not gotten them. I really do not get it.
We had guests that lived 5 miles away from us who got their invites 3 weeks after we mailed them. About 4 of our in-state guests, including my fiance's mom and brother, have still not received theirs (it's been 5 weeks since we sent them). We never received them back so I have no idea what happened to them. We got worried after about 2 weeks and started contacting people to make sure they'd received theirs.
Where your envelopes addressed with caligraphy? If so this can cause a delay. The sorting machine does not always read them correctly.
If a guest has not received the invite just be prepared to either provide a new one or let them know all the details. Unless you need a head count way ahead I suggest checking in with people 10 days before the deadline and making sure they have recieved invites. That way if they didn't reeive them they have tome to make arrangements and make a descision before your rsvp deadline.
Good Luck.
You must live near me in LA. I had a few lost locally and to Ohio. My envelopes were distinctively orange that I'm sure my post office recognized them on a daily basis. I've chalked it up to them playing frisbee with a few of them and them vanishing forever! :)
OMG.
Thanks for the responses.
I did the calligraphy on them on my own, I never thought it would be an issue, because the zip codes were really prevalent.
however, I did worry about the gold pen I used, it was darker in some light and hard to read in reall bright light...uh oh.
LA mail sucks.
I'm in SF but a large portion of guests came from LA, many of them got them within days, other's had them arrive 3 WEEKS later, even though the postmark was 3 weeks prior. ???? makes no sense.
I had others come back in the mail just after the wedding a few weeks ago. My planner told me often times they will show up at Christmas. Just the nature of the USPS i guess!
for a wedding i was just at this weekend, some of the guests (friends of mine) never got their invitation but they knew they were invited b/c the bride had told them directly way beforehand...
so yeah mail can get lost... sucks...
I'm in ATL, and at least a few of our save the date postcards got lost-- including my FI's parents! I don't even know if they got the second one that we sent them.
I've also had trouble getting wedding invites-- my brother and SIL had to send two to us last year. I think it's just a crappy local post office, and unfortunately there are a lot of them out there.
that happened with me (not invitations but my BM cards). the one that got lost was within the city that I sent it from (New York). drove me nuts!
me too - I sent the invitations a month ago and some guests STILL haven't received them! So, canada post sucks just as much :P
I have had on person who should have her invite already tell me she hadn't gotten it yet, but I've already gotten an RSVP from someone who live near her. Weird. I'm gonna give it until the end of the week and then send out a new one. It definitely made me paranoid, though, that I had messed them up.
my mom sent out bridal shower invitations to the DC area and almost all of them were MIA! Argh. I never thought that we would have problems with the USPS, but now i do...

My invites went out last Wednesday, all from the same post office.
It's only been 4 or 5 mailing days and many of our guests have sent us emails and texts to say they received and like them:)
On the other hand, I already have guests telling me they haven't received their invites (as if I need more to stress about 6 weeks before the day) lol. My Aunt lives with my Grandma and only one of their invites arrived? odd.
Did anyone else run into this? We're in LA and most of our invites went to the East coast...how long until I should worry that they are lost
