You shouldn’t worry about the “why am I being invited, I don’t see her that much?!?!” If they think that, they’re assholes.

Invite who you are close to.

I am ALWAYS excited to get a wedding invite, but I’m sure the distant ILs won’t be surprised not to get an invite!

@Merlin29:  as long as they know who you are they aren’t going to think its weird you are inviting them. I think it’s a very nice gesture but if they aren’t nearby they most likely will not go. I only have one sister but I will be inviting her “in laws” (not actually married but has a baby with her live in boyfriend). Because of my nephew we are all fairly close.

No one is ever going to get offended by a wedding invitation.  if they think it is weird they will just decline.  We ended up having to invite people I barely know for the same reason- so no one feels left out

I didn’t invite my siblings in-laws.  When I am invited to a wedding for people I barely know I think it’s a gift grab.

I invited DH’s sister’s in-laws. I asked DH’s parents if they would want an invite (and they had indicated somehow that they would.) I was mostly expecting them to decline, but was super happy when they decided to come. I wouldn’t worry about them feeling weird getting the invite. Extend it if you want (though you don’t need to), and they will come or not.
