I think it would be proper to invite the partners (ESPECIALLY if you are inviting the associates) they probably wouldn't come, but would definitely send a great gift...

Hi all!
This is my part 2 invite question. Basically, I recently started my first law job at a law firm. It is a bigger firm (120 attorneys), but I work with two different groups. I have about 8 peers within this group who are younger and associates (my status). I also have 5 bosses, the partners, in the practice group.
I definitely want to invite the associates, as they are the ones who I work with most closely and are more like my work friends. I am not against inviting my bosses, but could use some advice. Has anyone else felt awkward inviting the boss or bosses? Is it rude to invite part of a group, and not the rest? Honestly, I don't think most of them will come, as it is 4 hour away and I am somewhat new. It won't break my bank to invite them, though, if they come or not. Thoughts?
