If you want them – have them! Maybe look at your total guest list before inviting them?

I know my mum would push me to invite my step-family but that’s just because she is a bit unreasonable 🙂

@MissSparky:  If you want to and you have room, why not? Im inviting my step-grandmother’s family- technically my mom’s step mom, step brothers and step sisters

My grandpa and her got married in their senior years (both second marriages), so nobody really considers anybody steps. We see them maybe 2-3x a year, if that. I wouldnt say everyone is close, but its always very pleasant when we see each other.

@MissSparky:  “I guess my wondering stems from a friend lecturing me on not inviting people we haven’t seen in 6 months

Your friend was being silly. Perhaps you could apply that rule to friends, but not family. If that was the criterion then we would have invited almost no uncles, aunts and cousins. (When in fact we invited them all).

(I get that they’re not actually family, but it’s a family connection not a friend connection).
As for “making up the numbers”, I have never felt like that. and I’m sure your FI’s stepfather’s relatives will feel honoured if they are invited. So I voted: invite them if you want to (but it’s ok not to, also).

@MissSparky:  Totally understand. Its that middle of the road type of relationship. You dont want to hurt feelings by not inviting and you dont want to pressure them into coming by extending the invite… because you dont know if they expect one or not.
