How long do you plan on going for?
I think it's def possible to go to Dublin/Shannon first then fly to Paris. It was $637 one way for both of us to fly from JFK to Dublin in September 2010.
We only stayed like 2 days in Dublin but would have LOVED to see the west counties. :)
In Paris we rented a one bedroom apartment which was just fabulous. View of the Eiffel Tower, across from the train station, 2 blocks from Moulin Rouge and mere blocks from wonderful Montmartre.

Check out Budget Travel and EuroCheapo for fun and cheap things to do besides the usual. :)
If your HM is long enough, you can definitely do 2 cities. We are going on 2 weeks and doing 4 cities in Europe.
I have not been to Ireland before, but I went to Paris last year (Love it!) and going back again for honeymoon. Below are the places I went to in Paris. You can plug them into Google map and plan out your trip.
Places to see:
Eiffel Tower
Arc de Triomphe
The Lourve
Versailles
Nortre Dame
Basilique du Sacre Coeur
We stayed at a friend's place last year. This year, our agent is booking us at Royal Magda. We have not been there, but you can check their website out. They have good reviews. Another suggestion from our travel agent is Windsor Opera. Both of these places are near subway station and in Paris.
How long r u going for? I'd say at least a week in ireland, week and 1/2 to get an even bettter experience.
Paris is way overhyped for romance. The Eifel tower is only romantic if you find waiting in attrociously long lines romantic. People are rude, it's quite dirty, and overpacked with tourists being the number one destination in Europe so don't expect what you see in the movies...
Thank you for the information. we were thinking about 10 days. 7 in Ireland-Dublina and Belfast and then 3 in Paris.
For the 7 in Ireland..we shouldn't just book one place to stay at for the whole time, but stay at places based on where we are traveling to it sounds like?
@hollaatmad: I would take the train around the country and stay a night in Waterford, several in Dublin and Galway maybe one in Cork. Belfast may or may not be worth going. It can be dangerous and where you can can be restriced due to constant unrest. I would do a little research first before you go.
I've been to Belfast and while it was very intesting to see I'm not sure I'd want to go there on my honeymoon.
Hello! I think if you've already visited a big city, you don't want to spend too much time in Dublin or Belfast. I visited Belfast for a day, and personally, I found it interesting to see the history but would not want to spend my honeymoon there. It is pretty in your face that not long ago it was a war zone. Ireland's countryside is AMAZING though! I had friends who rented a car and drove around, finding B&B's on the way and they absolutely loved it.
If I was planning your trip I would first research airfare from my home city to Shannon/Dublin. Then Shannon/Dublin to Paris then Paris to home city to compare what is the more economoical route. From what I've researched from NYC to Shannon/Dublin it's about the same so it would come down to whether it's cheaper to fly from Shannon to Paris or Dublin to Paris.
I suspect just because of geographical location it might make sense to fly into Shannon and see the west counties, driving & staying at B&Bs seems ideal to me! :) Although I would roughly plan out my driving route and book B&Bs along the way from home rather than waste time while there looking for one. Then end up in Dublin for 2 days then fly to Paris.
Be sure to account for time zone loss and travel time. Likely you will lose 2-3 days total back and forth.
I would also look into airfare starting from Paris to Ireland then home.
If you're going to Ireland, try to spend more than the majority of your time in Dublin. It's a cool city, but the Irish experience is so much more than Dublin. The little towns & cities outside of Dublin are what make up the true "Irish experience." Personally, I love Belfast, but as most have said on here, I don't know that I would spend "honeymoon time" there. It's a very interesting city on the cusp of a rebirth, but not the "Ireland" that most people think of when planning a trip to the Emerald Isle. Also, Belfast is in Northern Ireland which is part of the UK, not the EU like the Republic, so prices tend to be a bit higher. Paris, of course, is a perennial honeymoon favorite (okay, even for a non-honeymoon!). You'll really need to figure out what exactly it is that you're looking to see & do and for how long to determine whether or not a trip to the City of Lights will be part of the plan.
If you go to Paris, see San Chapelle. So much better than the over hyped Notre Dame! I think a few days in Paris would be alright, you might lose some time flying though.
You definitely want to travel around Ireland, there is really not that much to do and see in the cities, don't get me wrong Dublin is amazing but you can do the sights in 2 days. Rent a car and drive around. Not too much in Belfast either. Head out to the aryan islands if you can, absolutly amazing.
what train around the country? Rent a car and apply for a Master card world before you go as that is the only card you can get free insurance on in Ireland and save a couple of hunderd bucks.
@Atalanta: There is a train that takes you to the major cities and it doesnt take very long. Its a great way to see he countryside. Its how I got around touring the country when I lived there.
P.S. Gallway was my favorite!
Hi
You can travel to France v easily and cheaply from Dublin but you have to be willing to book it once you're in Ireland. If you book online with Ryanair or Easyjet....very reliable european airlines, flights can be as cheap as a few pounds. Mid week is best for flight prices. You could also fly cheaply to London and get the eurostar across to Callais (v. cheap).
I would recommend going to the south Nice, Montpellier, Cannes. It's very cheap to travel there from Dublin too! Ask if you want any more info if this is helpful!
If you are planning on going to Northern Ireland, AVOID Belfast. It just is a gnarly city.
I would suggest Bushmills. It is the MOST beautiful scenery I have ever seen. And I have travelled a good deal. Bushmills isn't too far from The Giants Causeway, which is amazing, and Carrick-a-reid, which is where the suspende rope bridge is. There is an amazing hike between the two locations that is right along the cliffs and is spectacular. Depending on what you are into, I would also suggest the Wicklow Mountain area, another gorgeous area.
I agree with a PP, the Aryan Islands are beautiful too. Oh and I would avoid the Ring of Kerry, it is touristy. Go one penninsula over to Dingle, just as beautiful but less crowded.
Just to show you what I mean, these are pictures from my trip a couple years ago. Temping?
Here is the hike from The Giants Causeway to Carrick-A-Reid
This is Dingle:
And this is Glendalough, in the Wicklow Mountains.
Also, Kilarney is lovely, not the city but the area around it. Stay at B&Bs, most are family run and they are incredible. We mostly went to hostels which were actually amazing, but several nights we ended up in B&Bs that were just some people with extra rooms, they were super friendly and helpful. I don't know about Paris but I have never met friendlier people than in Ireland. Partly because most of their economic stability is based in tourism.
Ugh!! I wanna go to Ireland for my honeymoon so bad!! Sorry to hijack this thread but what did you ladies end up spending for your Ireland honeymoon?
Try going to http://www.raileurope.com/index.html you cant take a train directly from ireland to france but i think you can buy a global pass and travel all around ireland then take a ferry to europe and then use the rail to travel all over europe.

So I was at my FI parents house this weekend and his mother let us know she understands we would like to go to Ireland for our HM and plans to purchase our plan tickets. She stated that she understands the price, but would like to do that for us. I was so taken back and appreciative! It brought the realization that we are really going to get to go to Ireland for our HM.
That being said I have spoken with my FI that since we are already over there we should really try to explore an aditional country..I would like to go to France, to Paris inparticular. Niether of us have ever been over seas and I think think I am just wrapped up in the romance of the eiffel tower etc.
Is this realistic or should we just stick with the one area?
What are suggestions of places to see in both?
