@Eva Peron:  What impetus does the person have to contact you and tell you these things if they are married? Nope. I think there’s an ulterior motive!

@StuporDuck:  can’t compliments have ulterior motives and be rude? I know that sounds strange, but if it was intended to make you feel good and failed, is it still not a compliment in intention?

I would find those to be inappropriate comments for a married individual to be making to someone who is not his or her spouse.

@Brielle:  agreed, but ops question was whether a compliment is always a compliment, not if it was inappropriate, which I agree it was.

Smart and pretty is compliment no matter what but Sexy, don’t think so.  Some married guy calls me beautiful and I take it as a compliment.

@Eva Peron:  in that case, HELL no!!!! That’s just creepy, sad and wrong. I mean, a single guy might be an ego boost but a married man just makes me think that creeps and cheaters findme attractive.

The “sexy” comment is crossing the line.

oh nope. creepy, but it’s a compliment.

i happily told me fiance that some old guy whooped and honked at me on the street as i walked by. weird and creepy, but damnit i got hit on and i took it as a funny (but of course hilarious) compliment.

hahaha.

edit: upon reading the previous comments, it seems i am immoral or something. yes, it was weird and innapropriate and uncalled for… but he thinks youre sexayyy! so yes, let it boost your confidence, but still put it in your “creepy” box.

@Eva Peron:  Still sticking with “why would a married man go through the trouble?” If it ultimately didn’t matter and he wasn’t looking for anything to transpire, what’s the point? Usually people of the opposite sex pay compliments for the benefit of a potential date.

I mean, I guess in the spirit of paying a compliment, that’s what it is, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s completely not honorable, and I personally wouldn’t feel better about myself because of it. If anything, I’d feel the same about myself, but grossed out by the guy.

Obviously the words are meant to be compliments, but given the situation I would not feel complimented by them – I’d be totally creeped out.
