I don't have a planner but I'm thinking of asking my sister in law to be my day of coordinator just so I don't have to worry about what's supposed to happen when.
My venue's wedding package provides a DOC, and honestly I'm SO grateful to have this! Even if she ends up not doing much in the end, she serves as MAJOR piece of mind for me the day of.
I would say start your own business! Not all venues provide an on-site coordinator, expecially the less expensive ones. I would say if you are thinking of venturing on your own call around the area you'd provide your service for and see if the venues provide their own coordinator. If a lot do, it would be a little harder of a market to break into.

Hello Ladies,
Aside from being a fellow bride...I'm also an wedding coordinator for a large banquet facility in Southern NH (we do over 200 weddings a year). In the process of trying to plan my own wedding and being overwhelmed myself (its so different being on this side because I don't want anything that I see on a regular basis...or I'll feel like I'm at work on my wedding day!). I'm finding one of the continuous things I keep asking myself is "Who can I get to do this on my wedding day".
We are planning a "surprise outdoor wedding" so the strategy of getting it all done in secret is complicated....but fun! Being in the industry I'm lucky to have a great friend who has volunteered to be my day of coordinator (she's the ONLY one in on the secret!) but it has got me thinking....a lot!
I've been in the industry since 2004 and have worked hundreds of weddings from over the top and elaborate to the simple and sweet. I've seen it all, dealt with it all and then some! (the unexpected is my speciality!) I've negotiated with fueding parents, given a reality check to those less helpful bridesmaids, and set up to every last detail entire weddings of 500 people.
I'm now beginning to wonder if perhaps I should look to move my experience, creativity, and patience into a direction that allows me to work for myself (instead of a venue). So I'm curious....are many of you using a wedding planner? Are many of you finding you'd like to hire a day of coordinator? Specifically in the Boston North and NH areas...is this something you'd find useful and affordable?
Thanks Bee's for your help!
