I was on the fence, too. I had quite a sticker shock when I started looking, and I do a good job with my own make up. I ended up having my make up professionally done for my wedding, and I'm SO glad that I did. Not only did the cost not seem so harsh after I figured out how much I would have spent on buying new cosmetics, but my make up looked so much better than it would have. Plus, I was shocked by how hurried and hectic the wedding day was (even though we had a low-key wedding) - so I was grateful to not have to think about eyeliner.
Just my two cents.
My photographer (and friend) has advised hiring a professional to do makeup. One good point she mentions is that it can make turn around faster on your photos because there will be less retouching. Also, she says the feeling of being pampered as they retouch you for pics, etc. is kind of nice too :)
I think for pictures it is a good idea and also to last the whole day so you look nice. All of us are used to putting on daily makeup but a makeup artist can make the right choices to make things pop a bit in pictures and hold up throughout the whole day. Most makeup artists will listen to your every word and though it might be applied a bit heavier you will still look as natural as you want. I think its worth every penny.

Hello ladies!
I've been flipping through websites of make-up artists and goodness can they get expensive fast!!
Is it worth the money to get a proffesional to do my make-up for the wedding day even though i do technically know how to do it on my own?
