I have been floating around the beehive for a while now, taking in all of the awesome ideas and suggestions. I would like to get your opinions on this topic.
My Darling and I are not yet engaged, but are beginning to look into the planning stages of the wedding, to give ourselves a running start. We both live in NY and the wedding will also be within NY (Brooklyn, Queens, or Long Island). The big problem we are encountering is that in NY EVERYTHING seems to be soooooo expensive!!
We are on a tiiiiiight budget and we will already be downsizing or all together excluding many things, but it still seems to add up! The big budget buster is ofcourse the reception location. We are already cutting down the guest list to about 80-85 people max! We would still like a nice location, perhaps with some package that can help cut down extra cost (ie-linens, chairs, perhaps even catering).
What are some of your best ideas when it comes to making every penny count? Are any NYC brides having the same issue? Have any NY brides found any decent reception locations? (I’m open to all venues: Halls, barns, winery, B&B, etc.)
Thank you so much! Happy Wedding Planning Ladies!

Try getting this moved to the NYC Board. The NYC Bees will have better ideas for you! I’m pretty sure I’ve heard some budget/DIY NYC Bees buzzing around here! Plus, check out the DIY boards and other DIY websites for everything you can do yourself! Buy things used on Craigslist, do an appetizer only reception, limit your alcohol to beer and wine. There are lots of ways to cut back to save some money. And you’ve got about 14 months.. SAVE EVERY PENNY!

Dear Skoiner 923
If you are open to other locations outside of Manhattan, I can help you out. I’ve done great weddings for around $50- $60 per person with basic alcohol. I can also help with print design and photography.
Keep in mind that a Sunday afternoon or a Thursday evening is quite cheaper than a Friday or Saturday night affair Give me a call 917 796 8499

We ended up having to drastically scale back our wedding from our original $5000 budgt. Our new venue is actually FI’s house. But before that, we did find a couple of very affordable locations you might check out. On the upper east side, check out 303 East (at least I think that’s what it’s called)…If you are okay with going outside of the city, I highly recommend the Women’s Club of Englewood. It was our top choice before we switched our plans. Maria is great–especially if you’re on a budget.
