I’m a newbie here and glad to have found these message boards
We’re getting married in 2014, it’s an outdoor wedding, a very casual wedding & reception, in a national park in the Southwest. I’m not sure which veil to choose, or if it’s even appropriate. I know that it’s not necessary, but I’d like to look bride-ish even if I’m not wearing a traditional wedding dress. I was thinking of a single layer, elbow-lengh veil that is sort of gathered in the back. I see half-up, half-down hairstyles with the veil attached in the back and I really like that. Another point that might not matter is that I’m really short – 5’0 – and very petite, size P-0. I’m not sure if I’d be drowned out by a veil because I’m not tall. This might not matter because it would be narrow anyway.
I want a touch of something traditional but nothing frilly because I want it to match with the style of dress that I have. I guess I’m just wondering if a veil would work… opinions are welcome. Thank you in advance!!!

OP here – Just commenting, the accessory is cute, but NOT what I’m going with

@southwest2014: i think whatever vail you want would be beautiful! love your dress

Love your dress! I’d personally go with either a birdcage veil or a bling-y hair clip or headband. But if you want a regular veil, go for it!

I could see this dress with at least an elbow length (or shorter) veil. 🙂 Beautiful dress!

@southwest2014: I vote for a shorter veil
Here are a few images to give you an idea of short veils with a short dress
One a little longer like shoulder length

Seeing the dress and the photos above, I’d say birdcage or pretty headband/hairpiece. Too much veil seems mismatched by a shorter or more casual dress, especially if you are petite to begin with.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I never would have considered a birdcage veil, I thought it might be either too “modern” or “vintage” for my style dress… though I honestly can’t even say what the style of my dress even IS.
I’ll definitely think about the birdcage… If there are any ladies who have done this I’d love some suggestions or input!

And.. of course, thank you for everyone who complimented my dress! I know it’s different, but that’s the kind of wedding we’re having
