Nope. Although we were glad that my mom insisted on running a little announcement and portrait in our local paper. Turns out that lots of people stalk the engagements, weddings, and funerals section of the paper (and the police reports too, probably) and in the weeks after the announcement ran we had a lot of phone calls, emails, and congratulatory handshakes/hugs in the halls at work, in the frozen food section at the grocery store, between periods at hockey games, you name it. It was very fun.
I've seen "Announce your engagement" in a lot of "wedding countdown" checklists. Is this something we absolutely have to do? Just wondering...
