Hi Charmedlife! Yes, my FI & I plan to do this as well. Like you, we've been together for almost six years, and have what we need. I haven't nailed down which site to use...if you haven't noticed already there are quite a few. I've heard really good things about www.honeyfund.com and www.travelersjoy.com.
Good luck!
We are! We are doing it through Tramex Travel, mostly because they are a local company where we live and have heard great things about them. We also registered at Macys and plan to at Williams Sonoma, but if anyone asks, we are encouraging the honeymoon fund :)
We are also planning to do this. We're thinking of using HoneyFund since it seems like most others take a percentage of the money and we don't want to give up any of our honeymoon fund to a website!
We are doing this through Honeymoonwishes. com. It's a great site and we have had an amazing response from our guests. They all say that they love it and think its such a great idea. Go for it!!
We're also registered at Traverlersjoy.com, but we registered at Target as well, since I got advice that some people prefer to get a gift and if you don't register, they'll just choose something for you. So to be on the safe side, we registered for a few things (new towels, even a wii...)
We are doing this through myregistry.com I liked this site because aside from adding the honeymoon fund we were also able to add things from stores that don't necessarily have a gift registry. For example I was able to add gifts to myregistry.com from my fave store anthropologie! And the honeymoon fund is cool because guests will have the option of adding whatever amount they want to it and it goes into our paypal account.
using thehoneymoon.com i like it so far, super easy to use! but just hoping we can get most of our gifts in the direction!
we've been together for 6 years and registered at travelersjoy.com. i liked that you could upload your own pictures and customize everything. also, you don't have to book your travel through them which is a big plus! i also registered for some "upgraded stuff" at the request of some of my older relatives (no computer, etc). Good Luck!
I am also doing a honeymoon registry with thehoneymoon.com. We have been trying to spread through word of mouth that that is what we are really hoping for when it comes to wedding gifts, but we have also done a smaller traditional registry at Macy's so that people who aren't comfortable just giving money will have an alternative.
Thehoneymoon.com recommended that the couple make the first purchase on the registry so that when others log on they will see that the registry has been used. I think that the idea of a honeymoon registry is so new to people that some are skeptical or don't understand how it works. Seeing that someone else has also chosen to buy something on there may make others more comfortable. I just did my purchase on our siute last night, so we'll see how that plays out.
We're using Honeyfund. We just got our first gift pledge yesterday! :)
I'd love a honeymoon fund, since we have a lot of home stuff and adore travel, but I just feel weird about asking people to put money in a PayPal account ... I like the way Marriott and Disney do it, where guest pay the money directly to the hotel, so they guests know that it's being used for what they wanted to purchase. I guess the way I look at it is that if I'm buying someone a gift, I want to know they're getting what I'm giving. So if I click on "romantic dinner for 2 on the beach" I want to know they'll get that romantic dinner, and not decide at the last minute it's too extravagant and they'd rather save the money to put towards their next vacation, or paying their checked baggage fees at the airport ... I figure the guests that want us to do that would just write us a check! Maybe I'm just old fashioned though, because I want to not feel weird about it so that we can have one :) One thing we're looking into is using AAA to book our honeymoon (we wanted to use a travel agent anyway) and most AAAs offer honeymoon registries - and I think it's the paying directly for the service, vs giving the money to the couple, kind. I haven't found out all the details yet, but if it works out, I'll definately start a thread about it!
I'm planning on setting one up for our honeymoon, but we've also done the more traditional registries. A few people have given me some really odd looks when they've asked about where we registered when I mention the honeymoon one, so I'm kind of afraid it won't be popular with my crowd.
we have a honeyfund registry, but we're also registered at target. it's really, really out of the norm around here, so no one has gone that route for their gift yet, but i'm hoping soon someone will. i would really prefer for all of my gifts to be from honeyfund, but what can you do? BUT, honeyfund is really easy to put together and easy for your guests to use. i recommend it.
We're also using honeyfund.com. It's really great there's no charge to your gifts, unless they use the paypal selection (which is actually chardge by paypal and not honeyfund). The only charge that honeyfund does is if you want to decorate you site which I belive is aout $30.
we're using depositagift.com too! they include a complete wedding website that you can decorate with pics and video for free. it's working out really well. in fact, i just had my first shower and people even printed the gift certificates they offer at checkout to bring as gifts.
I must've been living underneath a rock! I haven't heard of this till now but I think a honeymoon fund is an awesome idea! My FI have been together for 13 years, living together for 1 so we don't really need anything for the house. We are on such a budget for our wedding that this would totally help with our honeymoon expenses.
We are doing Honeymoonwishes.com too! We've also done a basic registry at Target to refresh some of the home items that need to be replaced. We'll most likely end up having a yard sale to get rid of all the old stuff we've replaced.
We used Honeyfund and loved it! Our guests gave so much positive feedback and were very generous in their gifting. I typically like bringing an item off of a couple's registry but after having our honeymoon registry I would be thrilled to contribute to honeymoon registries in the future. We decided early on to upgrade the site to include pictures and a background. I think it helped to make it look more reputable.
I know someone mentioned that there is no guarantee that the contribution will go towards the honeymoon and that is definitely true. As soon as we received a gift pledge we would move the full amount to our vacation savings account, which is separate from our general savings account. While you can't be certain what the couple will use the funds for, there is no way of knowing if the same couple would return your gift to a Bed Bath & Beyond or Macy's and get cash or store credit back in order to go buy other things.
Hello Brides to be,
I used a honeymoon registry for my wedding because my husband and I had been living together for a few years before we got married. We thought instead of registering at Macy's for things we already have, we'd get a honeymoon registry and go on a really memorable trip for our honeymoon.
We used honeymoonwishes.com
It was amazing! The site was so easy for my family and friends to use and we got so many gifts. The site allowed us to pick our destination and gave us a HUGE variety of things to do at our destination. I strongly suggest this site over honeyfund.com
I had a gal pal use honeyfund and she hated it. It really is just an IOU site and at her wedding she didn't recieve all the money that was pledged. (although I know this is more of a family and friend issue, I still did not trust the site to use it myself).
Honeymoonwishes.com was great! Even if you're already using another site, I really think it is worth it to check out this site.
Congrats and good luck!
We are using www.honeymoonwishes.com & have received a few gifts already! Everyone loves it! We also registered at Macys & Crate & Barrel mainly for bridal shower gifts. I think a lot of people will use the honeymoon registry for wedding gifts as it seems more personal than just giving a check/cash.
We're also registered at honeymoonwishes.com and love it so far. We've gotten most of our gifts there even though we're also registered at Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma. At first I was going to set up our honeymoon registry at HoneyFund but then the IOU thing sort of bummed me out. You basically have to keep track of all the gifts yourself and they don't handle the money at all. Honeymoonwishes will just send you a check worth all your gifts when you're ready for it. They do charge a fee, but you can have it so its tacked onto what the guests selected like tax or shipping/handling (in fact that's even how the site describes it). So far I couldn't be happier and our guests really like the idea of buying us something fun like a hot air baloon ride and not just a place setting.

My FI and I have been together for 8 years and we already have everything you could possibly get as a wedding gift. I saw on another website that people do a honeymoon registry. Basically people buy stuff like your room for a night, or dinner for a night, or an excursion. Stuff like that. Is anybody else doing this?
