I plan on DIY decorating for the ceremony, but I actually bought me centerpieces for the reception. The reception venue will be decorated for Christmass so it actually works out perfect. I made pomaders for the church to hang on the pews and will drape tulle on the ends as well. I’m hoping that I won’t forget anything.

Hi date twin- I am also DIY decorating.

I bought some vases at the antique mall yesterday and today I am planning to pick up some floral tape, extra scissors for my helpers and some string/wire.

What supplies you will need depends a lot on what kind of decorating you are doing.  Our decor for both ceremony and reception was all DIY.  We used everything from a DIY chuppah (wedding canopy) to 127 paper lanterns.  Obviously, the supplies you would need could be quite different from ours.

I’m DIYing my decor, but as a bridesmaid I have helped at a few weddings.

Here are the things I would bring


floral wire

duct tape

masking tape

extension cords

power bars (plugs)

dental floss

fishing line

zip ties

wire cutters


floral tape

You maybe won’t use all of it, but you’ll be glad you have it if you need it.

If you have candles, don’t forget matches or one of those long handled lighters(or make sure the venue has something they can use when the time comes). Hand held steamer in case anything looks wrinkled or messy. Pins…..both safety and straight.

We are DIY decorating as well.  We’ll do both the ceremony and reception venue that day before the wedding — and then we’ll be asking a couple close family friends to take care of lighting all the candles at the appropriate times. 

Obviously what you need to bring depends on the type of decorations you’ll be using but I think it’s always best to try to prepare everything beforehand as much as possible (ie: we’ll have all our centerpieces assembled so they just need to be placed.  AND (as an event coordinator I know this is helpful) be sure to seperate everything into “kits” for each area/element of the decor.  For example: have all your items for your guest book table in one box, all your items/supplies for the head table in a box, all the items/supplies for the aisle decor in a box and so on.  That way you can pass off a box to some of your helpers and they’ll have everything they need to complete that section! 🙂

PS.  Command strips are a bride’s best friend!  might want to but a few strips and hooks just in case you need them!

Hey! I’m getting married this Saturday too 🙂 And we’re DIY decorating that morning, so I understand how you’re feeling right now!

One thing I’m taking a lot of is Sticky Tack. Our venue won’t let us tape/glue/staple anything to any surface. I’m using it to hang paper flowers on the wall, the garland from the bar, even for extra security to keep candles from tipping over. Of course, this would all depend on what type of decorations you have, but hope this helps! and GOOD LUCK on Saturday!
