I don’t even know why it’s being held there, frankly.

@Ninteenthchance:   I’m almost afraid to watch – especially the opening ceremony with the large crowds.  I don’t know why they chose that location either.

I love the Olympics and hope nothing happens.  Stupid Russians!  Those commies are always trying to cause trouble.  Ha.

@atacrossroads:  I’m not sure why they chose that location either. I had never even heard of it until it was picked. I think a better location in Russia would have been Moscow or St. Petersburg. Also I heard that Sochi is not even in a proper climate for skiing and snowboarding – that they had to make more snow than usual because there is non there. It’s a subtropical climate!

It’s very scary. I keep thinking of what happened in Munich.

I’m not too worried. Russia is a BAD country to mess with.

My mom and I were just talking about this like 30 minutes ago! I am very scared for all those athletes. I agree with above posters, not really sure why the olympic committee even voted to have it there in the first place! Hoping everyone stays safe!

@BrandNewBride:  I don’t think it’s RUSSIA the baddies will want to mess with…

…  What about Russia’s anti-gay bullshit?  Should we be worried about Billie Jean King??

@BrandNewBride:  I think that’s the point!

People are worried about terrorist attacks coming from Russians that are directed at US Olympians.

Right?

Yes, for so many different reasons. I worry about terrorists, but more so about athletes that are LGBT or support LGBT rights.

Yes, I have been! I had never heard of Sochi before the Olypmics either. I just don’t understand how they could wilingly send these people into harm’s way just to play sports. I know they are putting security measures in place, but there’s always a way to get passed them somehow, and someone will figure out how. There’s also the fact that they risk the rest of Russia being hit up by terrorists since everyone is focusing on Sochi and the Olympic games.

Seriously, though, do you all not remember Atlanta in 1996?  The country doesn’t necessary make the event unsafe.
