I am getting married in Punta Cana too, but not the Bahia Principe. I have a colleague who did in March. She loved it! However, the hotel did not do their dinner reservations properly and tried to get them to eat at another restaurant, which she refused. They managed to let them eat at their restaurant, in a semi-private dinner, but then tried to charge it. She had to argue a little, but the hotel let it go and everything else worked out perfectly for them.
Good luck to you!
Hi! I am trying to plan a destination wedding and am considering Punta Cana. egb are you getting married at a resort? If so, do you mind letting me know which one. I've written to a couple and am currently trying to sort through everyone's packages but haven't been able to narrow a favorite yet.
care23 check Trip Advisor ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147293-d478252-Reviews-Gran_Bahia_Principe_Bavaro-Punta_Cana_Dominican_Republic.html ). They have traveler reviews and rate the hotels based on those reviews. I found it very helpful when trying to weed out which hotels I wanted to consider. Yahoo! Travel ( http://travel.yahoo.com/ ) also had some helpful reviews. Hope this helps you!
@ZadryG: We are getting married at the Melia Caribe Tropical resort. Here's a link to their website: http://www.meliacaribetropical.com/
We chose that one because of the many restaurants (13), there is golf included in the package to entertain the guests, and because there are special areas only for those who take the "Royal Service", allowing us to have more privacy without going for a different hotel than our guests b/c we're honeymooning there.
Not me...but we have stayed there in the past. Great resort, can't complain.
I definitely did not realize how much research a destination wedding entails. But I love the fact that it cuts back on a lot of the stress of a local wedding. No fretting on where the out-of-towners will stay, how they will get around, how they will get to and from the wedding, etc.
Hmmm deciding on the destination and then deciding on the hotel were the two most difficult parts of it all. After that, everything flows... well, I'll tell you more in 3 months when I'm back from my DW, but it seems all so easy, almost too good to be true!
Hi Ladies!!!
Sorry for the late reply!!!!
I'm getting married in Punta Cana at the Bahia Principe Ambar. Ambar is adults only, but there is another part of the hotel (bavaro)for people with kids. If you stay at the Ambar part of the hotel, you have access to all of the resort. Many of my friends have been to this resort and have only said nice things about it. You have a wedding planning that you can e-mail back & forth, and I have to say she responds very quickly. Her name is Cynthia. There are set wedding packages for the ceremony and reception.
BUT there are other costs, for example: if you want seat coverings and ribbons for the reception, flowers for the reception, Open Bar....(we are not getting the open bar, because it's already all inclusive. Just give a nice tip to the waiter and he'll get drinks). If you would like the reception to be private, depending on the a la carte you have to pay $600-1250us. Here is a picture of the resturant I am having for the rept.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me ;)
I'm having problems uploading the pic, i'll send it when I can.
