I just can't decide if I should stay in my dress or buy another more simple dress to change into for the reception? I mean we are sort of on a budget so buying another expensive dress is out, what are some of you ladies doing?

As of right now I plan on wearing one dress throughout the reception.  Plans may change because my dress is extremely heavy and my folks are urging me to have a second dress.

My folks are willing to foot a second dress which will be custom made (nothing too crazy expensive).  I'm having a hard time with this because I love my dress and will only get to wear it once...might as well get as much wear as I can.

I'm staying in my dress.  I love it and I have a feeling I am never going to want to take it off.

I'm staying in my dress. I'm not paying over 6 grand to wear it for just about 5 seconds. :p I'm gonna keep that sucker on as long as possible.

Yup, I'm staying in mine for sure.  I didn't pay that kind of money just to wear it for a couple hours!  FI's gonna have to tear it off me (I'm sure he'd love it, lol)!  :)

I am having a reception dress, my main dress for the event is very big and heavy and restraining, but gorgeous!

My reception dress I bought at Macy's a simple evening dress in white with Rhinstone crystals on top and on straps. I'm having it shortened to above my knees.

Cost: Dress $100 on sale! Alterations: $80

I'd almost like to get a reception dress, but how many times do you get to wear a wedding dress? So I'm just going to suck it up and wear my gorgeous, amazing dress for the whole wedding. ;)

Yea same here!  I don't want to spend that kind of money and only wear it for 30 minutes.

YES!  I purposely bought a form-fitting dress with a small train so it wouldn't be too much of a nuissance for walking around Paris and dancing the night away!  Why would I want to change out of my beautiful dress?!

I love my dress and the ceremony is only 20 minutes long.  I am definitely keeping it on.

I think FH will probably have to convince me not to wear my dress to brunch the next day! I love it so much and I'm SO bummed I only get to wear it once, so you better believe I'm wearing it as long as I can! I'll probably put it on way early in the day, just to maximize the amount of time I get to spend in it!  :)

I'm definitely keeping that thing on as long as humanly possible! Thankfully, my dress is very dance-friendly...so I'm not concerned that it will be awkward or uncomfortable. However, I was considering changing at the last minute before our exit...and have a fun dress to leave the reception in. That would be it though!

Yep; I'm buying my dress with the reception more in mind than the ceremony - after all, it's MUCH longer!

I made sure that when I had my dress altered, they removed the small train so it's a simple circle at the bottom.  Less to trip on, and no bustle to worry about.  I know it's a little heavy, and I'll probably be whipped by the end of the night, but you only get married once, right!

I'm wearing my dress all night long except I'll change into a shorter white one for the exit and after party! I was going to get a second dress because my dress is super poofy and has lots of crystals and details that make it heavy, but I figured it's the only time I'll ever get to rock a dress like this, so why not.

I did like another dress very dearly and couldn't decide between the one I chose and that one, so I considered it for a second dress, but I think I'll keep a huge anniversary celebration in many years from now, and then I can rock the more second more simple dress! haha

For my exit dress, I got an ivory bubble dress off of Amazon for about 60 bucks and in a size 0, so no alterations are necessary as of right now.

I wore mine THE ENTIRE DAY.  Meaning put it on at 1:45 for the first look, ceremony at 5, reception ended at midnight.  In Hindsight, I wish I'd had a short dress to change into a few hours into the reception.  Id have changed at about 9:00pm, thats when it got HOT from going in and out of the photobooth, dancing, etc

like a lot of the other posters i figure i paid enough for the dress, i'd like to wear it more than a couple of hours! but mine is comfortable and not poofy, so that helps!

I am wearing mine to both ceremony and reception. My dress is very light, and comfy. The only thing I might change are my shoes. I might go from heels to a raised flip flop.

I plan on wearing my dress the entire day!  I'm also sad that I can only wear it once!  Although, not going to lie, I'll probably put it on in my house every once in awhile hahaha :)  I also don't plan to take my shoes off the whole day either... (LOVE them.) I'll need to tape my feet up for a week after, because I predict some serious blisters since they're brand new!

For a while I was thinking about being a 2 dress bride but I chose to save some money and stick with the same dress through out the night. I do not regret that decision at all. I am glad I did.

Like most of the other bees, I plan on staying in mine for both the ceremony and the reception.  Couldn't justify spending so much on a dress I would only wear maybe 20 minutes for the ceremony and then change.

I stayed in my dress throughout the entire wedding day, but it was a light weight destination dress, so that wasn't too difficult. I might have considered the second dress route if it had been super hot summer weather and I had been married in a super heavy dress.

I am staying in my dress... [in my opinion-] it is bad enough that I spent that much money on a dress for one day let alone for less than one day.. It would be nice to have a shorter one to dance in. But I love my dress and want to wear it the whole day.

I can't recall ever going to a wedding where the bride had a wardrobe change during the reception.  I say go all out and get your perfect once-in-a-lifetime gorgeous dress (and shoes) and don't take them off until the party is over!

I plan to wear my actual, longer dress, for the ceremony and some of the reception - then change into a shorter dress - I like to dance waaaaay too much to try doing it in a long dress with a train no matter the weight, etc. Hence, I plan on not spending too much on either dress!

I purposely bought a dress that was light enough to wear all day.  I am so excited to wear it!  If you are doing it just for the dramatic costume change maybe you could get a "getaway" dress?  A short white dress can be affordable if you look in the right places:

I wore my dress for the ceremony, reception and afterparty (even though there was a nice coating of mud along the bottom by that point).  I will NEVER get to wear a wedding dress again so I wanted to keep it on as long as possible!!!

In total, it was on for 12 hours.  At the end of the night, I was eager to get it off and my husband was unlacing the back.  He took out half of the lacing and it still felt really tight on me.  I tried to get out of it and I couldn't.  By this time I was getting frustrated because I was so tired and I couldn't understand why it wasn't coming off.  Then I remembered the "modesty panel" or whatever its called that was clipped into the inside of the back of the dress.  It was still clipped in so the dress wasn't loosening.

Just wanted to chime in as a bride who did wear only one dress, and kind of regretted it... I had the SAME thoughts. I loved my dress and spent a lot of money so I wanted to wear it as long as possible. Plus, without dancing, I figured I didn't have to worry about moving around too much. But by the end of the night, I was DYING to get it off, and not for THAT reason either lol I had a corset style dress and eventually my ribs literally felt like they were being squished together. I could hardly eat because there was nowhere for the food to go! I was just srarting to be miserable. Luckily, everything ended at 10 and we had no dancing or anything, but if we had, I would have been miserable. The thing is, the dress didn't feel uncomfortable at first. I was dressed and ready to go by 3pm, and it started getting uncomfortable around 7. I now wish I had a 2nd dress lol but, just my 2 cents.

I spent so much time designing my custom dress that I can't even imagine taking it off and changing into another! I love it so much and it's so amazing that I could never find a dress that would replace it. Plus, not everyone is coming to the ceremony ... so those people wouldn't even see it. I even have a couple people who have to come for dessert b/c of a previous event and so I just want my dress on all night.

GlamourBride .... love that dress! It's so fabulous.
