Is there a local shop near you that you can special order from? And just make sure they're kept nice and cool (maybe your basement?) until they're laid on the table?
Shipping seems like you're asking for trouble. Savannah Candy Store has amazing chocolate gophers, though...I wanted to get dad some for his bday but in August, that's a bad idea =]
I think as long as you can get them safely shipped to you, you'll be ok. Unless you and/or your venue don't have AC or ample refrigerated space for them.
Personally I wouldn't do it. I think it's more stress than it's worth. Well, unless you had someone handing the favors out, and they were kept cool before that. If you just had them sitting on a table, I think it could be an ooey gooey mess!
Well, as I mentioned in my post yesterday, I do have a DOC we'll be working with in about two weeks when we're one month out. Delegating the keeping-the-chocolate-cool task is something I'm investigating right now. It's just the most perfect food favor for our reception!
You can ship the chocolate with chillers so it doesn't melt even before the wedding. and we have been keeping ours in our basement until the day (its cooooool down there)
We had chocolate favors for our wedding when it was pretty hot out. We kept in an air-conditioned house until the day of the wedding and then brought it to the venue and kept it in a room with a fan in it until they were ready to be put out on the tables. Since our venue was indoors, we did not have a problem with the chocolate melting. Just make sure to get it shipped in an insulated package so it doesnt melt and be there to get it from the delivery person so they dont leave it on your doorstep to melt!

Hive, I need some advice.
I don't want to reveal too much here -- the posts I have planned!
-- but we're opting for a food favor, more or less.
The option I loooove right now includes chocolate. It's not a piece or chocolate or a chocolate bar, but still...there's chocolate. Am I crazy for possibly doing this in the summer? I'm not actually even 100% sure the company will be able to ship the product to me, and if they do, it might cost much more than anticipated, since it will have to be next day air with ice packs.
Did you or do you know of anyone who lives in warm or hot area -- it's about 85 every day here now for the high -- who was able to do chocolate wedding favors without disastrous results?
