Hi bees, sooo i have my dress for the wedding=D and I was thinking of having my dress altered for the first fitting sometime in February.  Our wedding is in September...My reason for doing it this early is because I know that prom season is in April/May, so I don't want to run into the 'high peak' time for the seamstresses.  Do you think that it's too early? or it should be fine? thanks!!!!

I think it's probably too early.  I am meeting with my seamstress next week to sign a work agreement and give her a deposit for the same reason you are mentioning about her being busy around prom season.  I would ask your seamstress about it and she should be able to reserve a spot for you if you place a deposit, so that she has room for you during the peak time.

... I don't really know much about that subject, but my knee jerk reaction was "February is GREAT" cause that's when we're getting engaged. Ha.

I think it is too early.  I went for my first dress fitting in April (prom season) and I was completely fine.  Just make your appointment now and you will be completely okay.  Plus prom dresses rarely need as much alterations as a wedding dress!

I think it's too early...my wedding is also in Sept, and I"m probly not having my first fitting til July or early August, which is way after prom season. You could change a lot in the 5 months between april and sept, and you want your dress to fit perfectly.

If you don't plan on gaining/losing any weight, you might be okay to do the alterations that early.  However, even 5 pounds can change the way the dress fits, so you might be stuck doing some sort of touch-up closer to the wedding if you do the alterations now.  I'd think that you'd have plenty of time to schedule a seamstress closer to your wedding.
