I'm always amazed at how difficult my husband can make simple household tasks.  I just went to put one more thing in the dishwasher and saw that it's "full" but I can fit at least 1/3 ore dishes in there!

Sometimes I think he makes things difficult or pretends he can't do them so I stop asking. :-)

    Anyone else?

Yes!  My husband does this all the time.  He stacks things in there so that it fits maybe 1/2 the dishes it is capable of fitting.  I'm always taking stuff out and rearranging it so I can fit more in there.

    UGH - Yes!

I hate when he puts things in orientated in a way so that they would collect water and get dirtier - ewww!

But at least he puts it in the dishwater - my BIGGEST pet peeve is dishes in the sink!

My FI has it down pat... my dear FMIL does not! :)

She was over for dinner & she insisted on doing the dishes! Awesome right? Well I walked into the kitchen & she had put all the plates in the TOP rack of the dishwasher lol. She was like, "I couldn't get it to work so I just finished washing by hand." She's in her 60's and has never had a dishwasher... she's been the dishwasher for the last 40 years of her life.

I have the opposite problem...hubs is an engineer so he spends waaaay too much time trying to fit more in there "because he knows it will fit", and then I end up having to rerun a few things since they were stacked so tightly they didn't get cleaned!

@ggsb. OMG, my husband is the exact same way!  He is very particular about certain things and insists that I'm "doing it wrong" haha.  He freaks out every time I put ANYTHING into the garbage disposal.

@mouse - Oh My...and yes I know that feeling as well.  I actually sneak and use the garbage disposal when he's not around so I can avoid the "watchful eye". Wait...The dude is an UT engineering grad as well right?  Perhaps it's something they learned in class??

My hubby is actually REALLY great about household chores, better than me actually.  The only thing that drives me crazy with him and the dishwasher is he puts plastic things in there like tupperware lids, and it drives me crazy because I like to wash those by hand.  As far as loading the dishwasher, he does well, he just has his way of doing it and I have mine :)

My FI is actually better at it than I am.  When I do the dishes after dinner, he often stands right next to me and makes me hand him the dirty rinsed dishes so he can load them himself.  I guess I really don't do it right.

I'm not really sure.. honestly, he's kind of weird and prefers hand-washing, so he usually just handwashes all the dishes. Of course, i end up having to put them away.... but at least he washes them!

Hehe.. I'm the one in the house that is terrible at loading the dish washer.. I just kind of throw everything in there. Mr. Peng has to arrange it all nicely when he gets home and just kind of grumbles about it under his breath. I TOTALLY don't hear it, so it's ok. :)

*sigh* My FI has spent his whole, entire life, outside of the first year we lived together, with a dishwasher. Can he load it to save his life? NO. I feel your pain! Somehow when I do dishes, I can fit all of them in there and they come out clean. He, on the otherhand, runs half full loads, they come out smelling funky (how?!), and insists on putting things in werid butt places! Why not put glasses in the silverware tray and silverware in the delicate glass rack? Oy vey!

i agree with whomever said they think its the FI's way of getting you to do it yourself. If they do a crud job, we'll do it for them- right? *rolls her eyes*

Well I ALMOST would rather him not load it because he just kinda throws dishes in.. Ya know taking up alot of room! But most of the time they only make it to the sink...AHHHH and when I say "Cant you at least put them in the dishwasher right?" HE replys "Thats what I have you for!!" LOL

It's not pretty, but from some of the above posts, at least my guys does the dishes.  Of course, if he didn't do the dishes they would stay in the sink forever since I do most of the cooking.  I cook, he cleans up after me, it is the only way that I stay sane.  What drives me craziest, is that he just stacks dishes wherever and puts tupperware everywhere!  But I'm grateful that I don't have to do it all and try really hard not to be too OCD about it.

    Yes!!

And I found out why, yesterday. His mom was helping clean up my kitchen, and she was loading the dishwasher. I went in later to add something and it was ALL WRONG!!! Glass sideways on the bottom, plates laying on the top.... I mean... total MESS.

MIL was already gone so I brought hubs over and showed him, and was like, is this genetic? And that's when he informed me that they've never had a dishwasher at all. His dad refused to upgrade to one and that's probably the first time she'd ever loaded one. I felt horrible after that. :(

LOL yep, and I always have to rearrange them when he's not looking so I don't hurt his feelings. Same with PPs - I make like more than double the number of dishes fit than he would have!

Yes! My guy is horrible at loading the dishwasher but he didn't grow up with one and I did. So I load the dishwasher and he empties it. He knows he has the easier job and if he sees me peek in the dishwasher and see clean dishes in there, he is pretty quick about emptying it.

That's funny that so many guys have this problem!

Ok he tries to say that I'm terrible at loading the dishwasher but he is so full of it! Of all the things he could care about (mopping, folding laundry, toilet scrubbing) he is nitpicky about how I load the dishwasher! "Well honey, do the dishes more and you can load it up however you like!" All my cups are in a row, my bowls are neatly aligned... it's perfect!

Truly, it boggles the mind. Usually, he puts the dishes in the sink, which drives me insane. I think I've finally broken him of that habit, and he's trying to put them in the dishwasher. But he'll do things like skip spots for plates, and I just don't understand it. There are little spokes there that basically scream at you "Put a plate here!" and he simply doesn't see them. He's getting better, though, so I'm convinced that this isn't a "I'm going to do it poorly so you'll just do it" strategy.

    Absolutely.

I reuse water bottles which often turn up all melted and crazy-looking.  Really?

I once also wondered outloud where my other 2 place mats were and FI all sheepishly said.... Um I had to throw them away....

    Me: Why?

    FI:  they kinda got melted...

    I couldn't help but laugh

Apparently it seemed like a good idea to put these (plastic/vinyl) placesmats in the dishwasher rather than rinse them in the sink and dry them...

    MEN!!

My fiance's job is to do the dishes.  He is great at loading it, but he is AWFUL at keeping up with them - he'll often load the dishes, and then we'll have dirty dishes pile up in the sink before he has unloaded it, so we have to start using silverware straight from the dishwasher because he hasn't loaded and unloaded it yet.

We've never had a dishwasher since we've always lived in old buildings (currently a 16th c. structure in Italy), so thankfully nothing to argue about there!

My fiance is TERRIBLE at loading the dishwasher! It doesn't help that I'm a Tetris-like champion at fitting things in there. I won't even let him do it anymore :)

Weirdly, he can only fit 6 things in the dishwasher but will pack the washer and dryer like he's stuffing an overfilled suitcase...

I have to be soo careful about rearranging the dishwasher--he gets super offended if he catches me doing it!  He takes it personally like I'm correctly him.  But it's not like I do it because he loaded it wrong.  I'm just trying to make things fit, and I do it to myself all the time, since realistically, I am the one who loads the dishwasher 90% of the time!

Yup my husband has this problem.  He's gotten better though. It's all a working progress.

Oh, and I have a few hard anodized (sp?) pots and when we first moved in. I took him aside and brought the pots to him and pointed out that these can not be place in the dishwasher because it ruins the pots. Just wanted to give him the heads up.

I would remind him a few times during the first 6 months.

Well, a few months later, I see them in the dishwasher.  He said he forgot.  *sigh*

I saw this book in the card store about things guys should know.  I thought it was a funny book but didn't think my husband would need it.  Hmmm,  maybe he does need it.  LOL

@ Nexus... LOL  He under loads the dishwasher but for the washing machine he stuffs it full.  LOL

Here's a funny joke for you ladies. I can't remember who the comedian was but this is so true of my husband:

Lets say someone says to dh...be sure to load the dishwasher, he thinks "oh geez, i gotta ply my wife (the dishwasher) with alcohol?"

    yea.

my dh doesn't know how to load a dishwasher OR laundry machine. when  we're out of dishes  in the cupboards, he doesn't think to even look in the dishwasher. he just grabs some paper plates.
